Anyone knows how to handle .m3u8 files (Video-Stream)?

    Hi folks,

so, I'm a big fan of the NHL (National Hockey League) and I'm trying to watch a replay of yesterday's final game of the season, Game 6 Pens at Sharks. I thought I found a very good site for it, providing even options of different broadcasts and resolutions --> http://www.xrxs.net/nhl/?date=2016-06-12

The problem is, they are providing only .m3u8 files and I don't know how to deal with 'em
I googled for quite a while now, but nothing is really helping me out :snuffy:

When I'm opening the file with VLC and hit play this is happening:

I tried with several other media players, but some are crashing right away and with others it looks pretty much the same like in VLC, here's SMPlayer for example:

It looks like it is a huge playlist with thousands (SMPlayer showed me about 3600 in the playlist) of snippets of 5 seconds, all of them with the file ending .ts
What should I do with all of that? :dunno:
VLC Player is still loading all those files into the playlist, for more than two hours now and is still only half way finished. Don't know if it leads to anything in the end, but I just let it run now.
SMPlayer stopped, because it crashed after half an hour or so.

So, is someone here with some experience in that department?
Any help would be very appreciated!

    thanks

    thanks for your reply!

well, look at the attached file :)
this is one of the playlists (for the "VISIT 450K" link on that site), I just resaved it with the ending .txt instead of .m3u8
I'm guessing these are all of those 5 seconds snippets with the ending .ts
I randomly picked one of those adresses and tried to open it with AcePlayer (and others). No success, says it can't open it:

The links on that site seem to be updated daily, date and m3u8 links look different every day.

Maybe this is the same method like it's used for livestreams and one would have to use something like RTMPdump to watch it, idk :dunno:

Guess I just have to try it somewhere else...
...tomorrow, already spent way too much time with that crap today

Their livestreams (also .m3u8 files) from the main http://www.xrxs.net/ page work in VLC, so I guess those links from yesterdays games are merely dead.

You're right, livestreams from there work.
What confuses me: I found that xrxs site after googling for NHL game replays and then reading this little thread on reddit --> https://redd.it/3rn8d4
Those guys are sayin' the links are for replays, not for livestreams ("select the date and have fun", "replays only..."). So I expected that it would work just like the live versions, and that the links would be good for quite some time.

However, I found the game somewhere else (--> http://fullmatchtv.com/san-jose-sharks-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-4 )
But I'd still prefer the option for different broadcasters, because I hate the commentator on NBC ("Mr. Ricochet", how I call him)

i can add, if you want to "save" your streams or if you have no time for some reason, download yt-dlp.exe and in command prompt use command yt-dlp weblink.m3u8
then watch them whenever you want.:like:

Thanks a lot for trying to help, folks
Thing is, I found a solution for this way over five years ago.
