For people who came from analog or have gotten used to it being the industry standard for so long, I believe they'll keep using ProTools. But for those of us who entered audio in the digital age and are tired of ProTools' limitations, I believe Studio One is the future. I was a Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition guy for the past 20+ years although I was trained on ProTools in school. I recently switched over to Studio One and I can't tell you how many times I had to pause during a session to cover my mouth in shock. (I promise you, I don't work for PreSonus in any sort of way.)

Watching Adam Steel, Wytse Gerichhausen from White sea studio and Glenn Fricker on youtube, they're big Reaper users and people tend to follow the crowd.....IMHO

This topic is subjective... It depends. To some people there isn't a "standard" anymore. People use what they want, and what they have learned for many years... I use Logic Pro and Studio One interchangeably for different projects (mainly Studio One), and different clients. Depending on their projects..

I think elitism drives a lot of what defines 'industry standard'.

It's how people have rationalized ridiculous things like Syncrosoft and iLok, or paying endless subscription models for software and never actually owning it. "I am professional, therefore this physical USB dongle represents my actual commitment and investment, and justifies the incredible amount I spend on software, $200 per unit plugin."

It would be nice if something as ultra-cheap like REAPER becomes a 'standard'. But elitism will prevent people from taking DAWs seriously if they're affordable, free, open source or convenient or too user-friendly. Many people will choose Cubase, Logic or Pro Tools. Because that's what they see people they deem competent use, while also seeing too many idiots making low quality beats on Ableton or FL. I've known people who bought Cubase years ago simply because it was uncracked and they wanted to be part of an exclusive club, not the DAW that 'pirate kids use'.

But my main takeaway that people shouldn't care or drool over what 'professionals' use - it should be based on what tool works best for you and what you're trying to achieve. Each tool has its use. I think most DAWs are equally viable. Honestly I don't see a point of a 'standard'. There shouldn't be one, this isn't NIST we're talking about here. They're for-profit companies making audio products. Even weird niche stuff like Renoise and energyXT is interesting and usable. They're tools at the end of the day. I simply can't see myself using Pro Tools because it never did support VST. And I can't see myself using Cubase if they start only allowing VST3 to be used (99% of my plugins are VST2, and even more would be, if Cubase hadn't forced new devs to be unable to support VST2 format). But again, an elitist might say "but they are bold and brave for not supporting obsolete things, looking to the future"...

Even Cakewalk will not go away and it is free. Protools will keep hanging around; like a vampire in one of those Herschel Walker stories.

You can all calm down, you will not have Pro Tools gifts for the New Year ))
    Avid is very avid!
For Intro gives only 8 tracks, previously, Digidesign gave 32, then Avid 16, soon will give 4, and then the stereo (2)

THE WAVE IS HERE!!!! NO, IT IS THERE!!!!!!!

Latest Pro Tools and all of Avid on sister site!! No license needed! Do not download it. I repeat, do not download it. It is evil. It will make your life miserable. It will eat your children. You will have to hide it from your colleagues. Do not download it under any circumstances. Please DMCA that crap before the world comes to an end.

The most notable part about the Reaper bandwagon, and that nobody mentions, is that Reaper has been around since 2006. If it took the Reaper crowd 16 years to realize that Reaper was better than Pro Tools, Avid has nothing to worry about it. It will take them another 16 to produce enough hits to make a serious impact and have a shot at becoming the "industry standard" ( whatever the fuck that is) However, by that time, every kid will be back using 2" tapes, nothing but outboard gear, and every producer caught using a DAW will be seen as a dinosaur.

Or maybe they bought it because it offered more than the other DAWs. They saw it fitting their workflow better, and to them it was a good investment. That is the difference between the professionals. and the mickey mouse club. The pros will invest in these tools because they expect a return. Take Pro Tools as an example, even if it costs you $500 per year, that is pocket change. The first session will pay for it. The members of the mickey mouse club, do not see it that way.

 I've been using Reaper since version 3. Once you know Reaper well, you realize that from creating a mix session to completion, you work two or three times faster than any other DAW on the market.

The mickey mouse club, aka the beggar mouse club are just people who collect warez products, they don't work with music, they are usually unemployed or snobbish hobbyists, in fact in most cases they don't even know the difference between an EQ and a saturation, it all sounds the same to them. No importance should be attached to their comments. They've never spent a penny on their software, and they've never made a penny in the music industry. If these are PT's contenders, Avid can rest easy for decades.

I remember when R2R blessed us with Softube, the forum was full of people saying "meh, nothing special, even my free eq developed by my cousin sounds better"

I don't think we will have to worry about this happening, while I don't think Pro Tools is on it's way out, I do think we've seen the last of newer K'd versions, the protection on newer versions is too complex, it would be nice to see a new version on the sister site, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.....
