yes there is! it's very close to being finished (like only a few days). just trying to nail down the intro and there are a few lines in the verses that i want to re-track (lyrically feel i can do better in a few places). as soon as it's wrapped up i'll post it here in this thread and tag you guys so you can come check it out. i'd be fuggin' STOKED to hear what you think!

dude all good haha. i'll take fine anyday! beats the hell outta "bad" everyday of the week. music is subjective. i know it's not gonna be everybody's jam.

 

maybe you'll like the one i posted a few comments up. or not. that's ok too. i do think it turned out alot less generic and more "it's own thing" objectively though. without being too "weird" where it loses broad appeal... maybe? shit, i dunno anymore lol

Hi @tylerv, I like your song, very coherent and varied. You are clearly talented and have a great future ahead of you.

Here are a few more suggestions and thoughts from me:

- You need a unique artist name, think about it very carefully, it will be with you all your life. In your
video you are to be seen and in addition a name is missing which one can remember. Also a meaningful
logo for your life project is very helpful. The artist name and logo should always appear with your songs.

- If you distribute free songs, you should better put them in a folder and add a picture of you and an address
as well as copyright/license - so that the song belongs to you. Label the folder with your artist name.

Do you have a YouTube channel, SoundCloud channel or website - where can people find you?

 

^what he said. Work on the branding a bit. I know it sucks having to do the work of 20 people when all ya wanna do is make music. You've got a notch up on most people cause your multi-skills are clearly adequate and music is far from sucks. I also think you come off as a talented guy who is relatable to many. I can see a nice little loyal fan base easily developing. Keep it up man!

play multiple real instruments.
sing and have a vocal (very rare on here)

That it definitely is! It’s the thinline tele version with the fender thinline hb’s. And I did major work to the body. Including taking a blowtorch to it which could’ve gone totally wrong lol. That’s me though. Spend 800 on a guitar… immediately take it apart, strip the high end factory finish, and set it on fire to make it “my own”

Alesis command x mesh heads kit. I’ve had them about 3 yrs now and they’ve held up pretty well and get the job done w/ pretty natural feel as long as you’re using good software. I haven’t probably ever used the brain that came with the kit bc the sounds are usually so bad.. I used to use sd3 for all my drum tracks but for about the last 2yrs I pretty much exclusively use getgooddrums kits. They sound and feel sooo much more natural imo. I use the “ggd modern and massive” kits alot but I think for this track I ended up using the “ggd one kit wonder hard rock” kit if I’m not mistaken.

So as for a name, I know I need one.. I’ve struggled to settle on something yet though. For a short time I had thought I had settled on “pretty things”. Then I realized that was an awful name haha and have planned to start going by Rūk (pronounced rook) once I start to release music in any public fashion. I like it. It’s simple. But my only reservation with committing to it is the fact that it has major mispronunciation potential haha.. what do you think?

i haven’t done anything at all to copyright so that is a very good tip. Since I’ve yet to really share any of my music outside of pet much here I hadn’t even thought about it. I’ll get on that for sure.

so I haven’t put any serious effort into any of the marketing/centralizing any of my stuff to any one place where ppl can find me. Which is so stupid I know. I’ve just been so focused on the actual creation of the music that I’ve neglected everything else. But that’s what this recent obsession with learning to edit video has been about. I feel I’ve got the music to a point where I can be somewhat proud of it and now I’m wanting to share it. I just created a YouTube channel and this has been the first video I’ve posted to it but I’m planning to ramp that up as much as I possibly can. And along with that I’ll start a push on SoundCloud and instagram and use each to push traffic to the other. Easier said than done I know though which is why I’ve put that stuff off for as long as I have.. I wanted to get good enough at production and mixing and working with video (the technical stuff that makes one really look “pro”) before putting anything out publicly and looking amateur..

Seriously thanks for pointing out some positives. I tend to be extremely harsh and doubtful of myself and where I understand a little bit of that is healthy I am really bad it reigning it in and it usually takes someone outside reinforcing some positives. Just somebody saying “hey dude, you don’t suck completely” every once in a while is appreciated ha

Hi @tylerv, also please remember to back up your created works and data. The best way is burned CD/DVD/BluRay. Possibly copies on Mega, which offers 20 GB free. Expect the worst and hope for the best. Power outage, internet server damaged or hacked, and other natural disasters. Print your passwords and important data on paper. You probably already have homeowner's insurance for your valuable instruments.
