To avoid any type of confussion here. Apollo x8p needs a Thunderbolt 3 port BUT a Thunderbolt 4 WILL work as it is backward compatible.

They do not care. It is like Avid, once you buy into their eco system they have you by the balls. What they needed to do was a recall on all those units or at least make the info available for all current users and potential buyers but that is too hard. You have people reinstalling Windows, going crazy for something as simple as a firmware update.

This is what they will tell you if you contact them with this issue:

Then they will tell you that:

In other words, they don't want anyone to know that they don't know how to fix their own product. Unreal.

i know on my asus motherboard i had to turn thunderbolt port on in bios i think even though its built into my mobo and the plug is on the back panel with all the other usb and other plugs. As for it showing up sometimes i have to start my computer once started i then have to restart it and then my apollo is connected. The first time i start my computer it wont even show up in the sound options then i reset and everything works fine i have an apollo twin X heritage but figured something might help.Everything is updated ive had this apollo maybe a year now

@SDFMusic I have a question. When you said that the Apollo is not being detected by the computer, you meant by Windows or by the Meter software? Reason I ask is that regardless of firmware update your Thunderbolt should show it. The failure to detect it, is it by the Meter Software in Windows?

Look it up in Device Manager under

Audio DSP Accelerator and Sound Video and game controllers

I've never trusted using thunderbolt on a windows machine.

When I unplug it and reconnect it, I get the Windows notification.

that's kinda what I was saying. how many is a big batch of units for them to make? Not that many. So you'd think they would have notes for themselves in sap or whatever they use. So then it should be chased application, then driver, then os, then hardware. but of course always firmware update from box, and new cable. :)

Ok. I just wanted to make sure. Now, I am 100% convinced that it is a firmware issue.

Thanks for your replies. By the way, I received an email stating the same thing as the one you posted. I can't believe that they do copy and paste their responses.

That is exactly what they do. As I said, the so called "tech experts" at UAD are full of SHIT. :hillbilly:

the tech support was probably just too busy; because they have to catch up with all the work that piles up, when you only work 6 hours a week.

Reading back it sounds like they do know how to fix it, they're just too fuckin stupid to understand... I have a vision of their offices getting stuff posted back to them, hitting it with a club ('me got special tool, me smash'), still doesn't work so they label it 'broken'

Apples and oranges but it might be useful since we're talking UAD, but I have the opposite with my USB Windows only. I have to boot into Windows, let it settle a bit then turn on my Apollo Twin, then the Meter recognises it attached... If I boot with the Apollo already turned on it doesn't get recognised. I'm also on an old Firmware though, 9.10 or something

Again apples and oranges and your fix sounds solid... My Apollo Twin came with a faulty USB3 cable. For some reason it would see the Twin and I was able to do a Firmware update but because the cable was faulty it would never connect properly. This is unlikely to be the same issue on Thunderbolt, but its another UAD anecdote about how shit they are out of the box

OP... I'd send the piece of shit back without trying to fix it. Its not your headache to deal with... Also be aware that all the software that comes with UAD on Windows is already outdated and not supported. VST1 and 2 is not supported by Steinberg. DAWs could soon be dropping it entirely and all UAD plugins are VST2 the last time I checked. So they're already out of date for Windows unless you use AAX. They've made UADx VST3 but haven't even bothered updating to VST3 for Windows users who use their $3000 fuckin dongles

These devices, as it stands right now, are pretty much a new TC Powercore for Windows - abandonware. They should have never got into Windows if they weren't going to support it

@The Pirate I don't know how to thank you! I followed your suggestion, and as soon as the Apollo connected to the Mac the firmware was updated. With the firmware update, I was able to register it with Universal Audio and now it is working on my PC. I have been trying to fix this for the last 3 days. Thank you, thank you. I hope you dont mind that I took the initiative and marked your reply as best answer. Also if you have Paypal or Cashap, I will like to compensate you for your time. Again, thank you!!

I told you! Good cables, detected on device manager but not on Meter software is one of those units that left UAD without the firmware update. Best Answer? I never heard of that thing. What is it? :dunno: (just kidding, it is always a good idea to do so whenever a solution is provided so others with same issue can benefit)
Paypal,Cashapp? Sure, I have those. My fee for troubleshooting is $10,000 so we are talking $30,000. Send it before December 31st so I can have a blast waiting for the new year! :hillbilly:

Good luck with your music production.

I did not help you expecting any compensation. Knowing that my suggestion worked, and the opportunity to trash UAD support is good enough compensation.

Dude, you da man! I'm an UAD user for years and I would never think of that solution. Thanks on behalf of @SDFMusic and all others who could face the same issue

Im not da man. I am da woman with the nicest ...Ohhh, here come @Olymoon or @No Avenger to delete my message. That same problem with the UAD drove me nuts for 2 weeks.
To clarify, as bad as my experience with their tech support was, I have nothing but good things to say about UAD plugins, and the built and sonic quality of their interfaces. They have been as good as I expected them to be at that price range. A great thing because I can't even think of having to deal with those useless techs on a regular basis.

Edit: Maybe UAD sends me their Ultimate Bundle for free:hahaha:

That was a problem on Z690 Gigabyte MB as well with a discrete thunderbolt 4 card marple Ridge from Gigabyte. They solved it months later with a BIOS Update.
Had this shit myself with an presonus quantum tb device. 2x Start loops needed to get a working tb Card. If think this had something to Do with pcie lanes shareing not properbly working.
