Hello, anyone use slate digital tape machine? As i hear really no warmth, just input/output volume.

For me almost each tape machine sounds better than Slate. My favorite three are Softube Tape, UAD Studer 900 and Acustica Taupe. I also used Satin (it's ok), I really like Flywheel, but UAD and Softube are my go0-to when it comes to individual tracks / busses and I like Taupe on master.

 

there are so many options. Taip, Saturn, Satin, Kramer, etc. You could say the market is a bit saturated.

 

I use Slate VTM for that exact reason, I don't want to make it warmer, I just make things go through it for sake of just have the whole thing goes to tape. Thinking of it as the most high quality transparent 2track tape machine ever, because all I want from a "tape machine" isn't warmth, but everything else. If you do a proper gain matched, EQ compensated, null test, you'll will hear all those flanging, it is the minor little tape (time) fluctuation that the plugin introduces to replicate the non-linearity of time by tape machine. A high quality, calibrated, maintained tape machine in good studio.

Got around 10000 other plugins option for tape warmth but Slate VTM is not one of them.

 

Yeah Cana San Martin - Mystique has gotten a lot of use over on my end for many years now. Funny how thread title defintely took the early exit off the highway and took the thread content where we never expected. I never remm any buzz around Slate Tape Machine as much as other tape pluggies though but I did use it right along the rest of my tape plugins.

I think IK's tape emulations are the best - not counting Nebula though.

 

Mainly use it on my mastering chain to make it sound a little bit better.
But depends on taste also I guess
