I grabbed Captain Plugins several weeks ago and it's disappointing. The plugins are okay, but their server is unstable. Thus, I can't progress my job mostly. Mixed in Keys even closed their community forum. No wonder. It says "Under maintenance", but I strongly doubt it. They may blame my side, but my internet connection is rock solid.
Life lesson : Consider a lot before purchasing anything that requires internet connection. Too much waste of time
Hope someone crack the latest version soon.

yeppp that is why I also had the refund .. why would bother with plugins that asks to connect to the server everytime .. such a waste

Indeed. The plugin is pretty useful though. They think something wrong. I rather use Scaler 2 more.

 

Have you tried the Version on Sister Site (never had Server Problems while using)? By the Way Scaler2 is my Choice (Offline and more powerfull).

 

Those little "Feel Your Sound" plugins like House Engine are the perfect exact opposite of Scaler. They are dumb little plugins like Captain Write Your Chords For You plugins. But I'm telling you, there are few faster software "I'm stuck, plz help" options out there. I like them so much, I am reluctant to even tell anyone to try them out ;]

 

I really dislike their business model because it is flawed on bad assumptions. Pushing functionality out of the user's environment and upstream serves two purposes:

• Quicker bug fixes
• Increases costs through decreased piracy

I want to take bug fixes when I want them, I usually wait for feedback on updates before I decide to update.
Decreasing piracy does not increase costs. If someone is going to pirate, they probably wouldn't pay for the product if they can't pirate it. You can't make a sale where a sale is never going to exist.

I keep my production machine off any network for security reasons.

 

I hope you have a lesson learned: NEVER buy any software that REQUIRES internet connection.
Seriously, if no one buy such trash these businesses have to change their licensing procedure otherwise they're out of business.

 

Mixed In Key is great so I thought I'd give the Captain stuff a try (previous version), but got a refund also.
It was almost useful, but I couldn't stand that everything had to be linked together.
i.e. if you already have a chord progression and just want to use the bassline plugin you can't just send the existing MIDI to it you have recreate it in their other cumbersome plugin first. You couldn't import .mid chord progressions, and it wouldn't record in exactly what it's fed either.

 

Never had any problems connecting to their server.

Yes they are slow at fixing bugs and they are constantly bringing out new versions with little new functionality but forcing a re-purchase.

They would be better just moving to a subscription model.

 

I did, but I wanted the newer feature they provided. Now, I'm turned off.

 

I usually buy the products if I like it after I use it for a while unless it's too pricey. But it's a waste of money and time occasionally.

 

I dunno. It happens 1/3 times and I have to re-launch my DAW. It's not pleasant.

I have all captain and Mixed in Keys and older software from them ..mostly because of huge discounts over blackfriday and because of former purchases and had never problems with it also not with epic or satelite online software her in europe
