Hey guys, hope you're doing great. :)

Is there a way to set the phase of the oscilators on Arturia Pigments to a specific point?

Without that function it's just impossible to create a good bass sound in it cause of the initial click caused by the phase position. So yeah, I've read the manual and searched for solutions on Google but without success. Am I missing something or they really haven't implemented that function?

EDIT: I just found out that the clicks happen even if I choose a wavetable which starts on a zero cross phasing point, so these clicks I'm hearing might have another cause. Does anyone have a clue on how can I create a punch and click-less pluck bass on pigments?

I don't use Pigments so I can't verify for myself but from reading the manual and this post it seems that Pigments lacks a proper way to set OSC phase position and retrigger options like other synths like Serum for example.

Yeah, I found that thread as well, but since that was almost 3 years old I thought they would have included that functionality by now.

In any case i appreciate your attention bro.

Slow the attack ever so slightly until the click disappears perhaps as a stopgap measure?

Unfortunately the manual (v3.5) doesn't seem to indicate an inclusion of this very useful function but (I hope) maybe I'm missing something

I appreciate your suggestion, but unfortunatelly that don't help much actually, seems like the click still there somehow, just less loud. Unless I really open the attack, but then it just doesn't sound punch anymore. Another thing I've noticed is that the release parameter cause clicks as well depending on where the phase stops, but I really don't get that, I mean, it should be ending on silence anyway. So yeah, it's just hard to believe they've built a synth so powerful and flexible like that and still didn't thought on basic things like these. :dunno:

can u send an img of your actual config?

or just pick some preset bass that can do what u want, and check the config there

Unfortunatelly I can't get a pic atm, but it's not something fancy to be honest, I was just trying to make a typical moog bass (saw wave with low pass filter modulated by a plucky envelope), but don't matter what I do the click still there. Unless I open the cutoff too much, but then it loses punch and sound kinda flabby with short notes. Maybe pigments is just not good to handle short envelopes. Hope they improve that along the CPU consumption in a future update.

r u sure then u have your drivers working well? that spike maybe its the audio driver crashing a little... try configurin the buffer or try pigments in standalone if u r always trying inside a daw.

Thanks bro, but actually I know how to make it. I just don't like the result of it in pigments. I mean, in Serum you can even set the attack to 0ms and have no clicks. Besides that Pigments is quite unstable for bass sounds, it kinda have a micro offset in timing on every note, which might be desirable on pads and leads but for club tracks where you need to align the phases of kick and bass it's good to have control and stability, and then, program these non linearities if needed.

PS. Sorry if my answer "sounded" rude, that was not my intention. I have some experience with sound design, I'm just trying to learn a new synth really. :D

Thanks bro, but that's not the case. The problem happens only in Pigments, I think there's no workaround to it by now.

I've uploaded two basses, hopefully you'll be able to hear what I'm talking about.

    https://voca.ro/1M6PKBXPgvT9
    https://voca.ro/1m3jdL3yjT1V

Both are extremely raw, no fx inside or outside the synths. The first one was made in Serum and the second one in Pigments. In the Serum patch I have set the atack to 0ms, but i was obligated to give the Pigments one some attack otherwise the sound would be unusable whatsoever cause the click would sound even louder than the bass itself.

EDIT. Just to add to the topic, the click goes higher in the spectrum than what's "allowed" by the filter, even without any modulation in the filter.

    Hi @Doctor_Me,

a photo of your settings would be very useful. Then I could transfer that on my Pigments times and see what you can do about it.
I have already published 2 soundbanke for Pigments. http://ohlenbostelhelge.magix.net/public/misc.htm
You can also send me the preset then I load that into my Pigments.

Serum is serum and pigments is pigments. You can't expect the presets in Serum to be transferable so that they sound the same in Pigments. It is the Pigments engine that has its own character. You either like it or you don't. For me, Pigments also sounds a bit fuzzy and not well defined enough. For a Moog bass, you can also use a Moog clone.

In the file attachment you will find a picture of the Amazon tester that describes the Pigments as too little pressure and too sterile. Source: www.amazona.de/test-arturia-pigments-3-software-synthesizer/

Below are 2 more pictures of the Init Presets and Envelope.
It is best to load the Serum and click on "Init Preset" and the same for Pigments "New Preset...", then compare both.

Thanks for your detailed reply bro, I appreciate it. The thing is that I'm a "less is more" type of person and I was thinking about start using Pigments as my go to synth since it's more complete overall, but unfortunatelly the bass experience was kinda disapointing, so I created this thread cause I thought I was doing something wrong. But yeah, not a big deal, Pigments still a great sampler and has a nice additive synthesis section as well. Hopefully both synths will get upgrades soon to overcome their weaknesses, but for now I'll stick with Serum as my go to, even cause the CPU usage on Pigments is quite intense, even for simple sounds.

Ironically Arturia Minimoog emulation have a similar clicky sound. Diva sound nice and clean tho. In any case I just used the term "moog bass" to exemplify what I was trying to do in Pigments.

Thanks once again for your attention and your attempt to help.:mates:

Thanks for your assessment @Doctor_Me, my opinion is: Everyone who can hear well calls it differently, I just listened to the Arturia - Mini V and yes you are right he sounds noticeably unclean, clicking I would not say. rather something too sterile, it lacks warmth. Of course, also depends on the audio interface and the DAW. Also the perceptible take people was different.

All plugins from U-HE are very well made. Lennar Digital with its Sylenth1 has also delivered first-class work. Togu Audio Line with its Tal Mod is also a testament to top-notch quality. How would I improve the sound: ADSR - a little more release, Arpeggiator - more GATE, AMP - adjust velocity a little softer, use delay FX Syncron, EQ filter fRequences edit.

yes the bass on serum sound more rounded and sweet
