Are all audio effects pre fader essentially?

For example when using compressor, gain reduction only increase/decreases when messing with input gain not with volume fader. Does it mean every other audio effect is pre fader and only reacts to input signal no matter what volume fader is set to?

Most DAWs have a pre- and post fader insert option, so you can select which ones are pre or post. Cubase for example has a green divider you can move around.
Edit: What DAW do you use?

Usually, yes. And it's made on purpose so you can adjust the level of a signal without affecting its sound at the same time. Otherwise every little move of a fader would afford a readjustment of the inserted FX.

Just think of a compressor threshold, it would be a pain in post fader.

POST single track reverb or saturation : when you automate the fader, it automate level AND effect wet/dry
But most effects are PRE for sure

In Reaper I use folders (busses) which keeps everything simple, even when I am drunk.

No green divider here. In 11/12, you just click on the send in the mixer and it switches from orange (post fader) to blue (pre fader). One of my only gripes with Cubase Pro is it opens every send post fader and you have to go in and manually switch them over.

    1) I'm not talking about the pre/post send. I'm talkin about the green pre/post divider/separator in the insert strip. Different thing.

    2) You don't have to go into individual instances to change/toggle pre/post sends. You have it all in the mixer view (F3). Just expand the send slots so they are all visible.
