    Hi,
I have the UD4-X99 motherboard. I am trying to use an SSD on to the M.2 slot.
    SSD model: 980 PRO w/ Heatsink PCIe® 4.0 NVMe™ SSD 2TB

When I connect my ssd on to the m.2 slot on the motherboard, I am getting a bluescreen and windows doesn't boot.
Please see attached for error message

Does UD4-X99 not support the above SSD drive? Can I know which version of samsung ssd does my motherboard support?

    Thanks

My windows is installed on another SSD which I am using currently. This is an additional SSD I am trying to add to store my samples. When i connect this on my m.2 slot, system errors with the blue screen. When I remove the drive, windows boots as normal.

    From the motherboard manual:

The SATA3 4/5 connectors will become unavailable when an M.2 SSD is installed in the M2_10G connector.)

M2_10G, SATA Express, and SATA3 4/5 connectors can only be used one at a time. The SATA3 4/5 connectors will become unavailable when an M.2 SSD is installed.

Is your boot drive installed in SATA 4 or 5, and if so, can you move it to a different connection on your board? I'd guess you have 4 other SATA slots to choose from. Pick one of those, try again. If it still doesn't work, try disconnecting the M.2 to see if things work again. I'd bet that you have your boot drive in SATA 4 or 5 though.

It is so simple you will kick yourself. It is trying to boot from the additional drive. Just specify the boot drive as exclusive boot drive and do not allow it to boot from any additional drive.

Do you have an image for this by chance? Or can you send me the link where you found this?

For future reference, aside from having the physical motherboard manual (you should always keep these), most motherboard manufactures keep a long history of manuals, and it's as simple as just doing either a google search for your model and the word "manual", or just going to the manufacturer's site, looking up your product and finding the support section on it, and manual.

I wouldn't bet my house on this being the cause, but I'd bet a fair bit on it! It's not a too uncommon of a cause for this problem. It could be something else, however.

Please avoid any other troubleshooting until you've confirmed what slot your boot drive is in, as you don't want to accidentally make things worse. Then, if it's in 4 or 5, the real, simple solution is to just move your boot SSD to a different SATA3 connection. If there's nothing in 4 / 5, then report back :)

Also I'd check it supports PCIe® 4.0 M.2 as that may cause issues too although I don't think the manual helps much with that in this case.
I had to get PCI 3.0 x4 for my oldish Asus Motherboard

Is this one of the Ali Express boards? If so, that is most likely the issue as the Components & BIOS are hacked together in a no-standard way.
The other issue is lack of support for PCIe Gen4 devices.

The ASUS variant of X99 requires BIOS version to work with PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe.
