Last question: have you tried the exact same kind of realtime project, with the same latency setting... with Reaper?

Notice that I'm not a Reaper fan at all, I say that only because its memory and CPU imprint seems the lowest among all daws, so it could be interesting to make a comparison test, and answer to this question: what's the best DAW for realtime / streaming / broadcasting / podcasting projects?

You can answer this question with two angles: purely technical (latency-CPU-memory), and also in terms of workflow.

I had some problems with Cubase too. I disabled ASIO-Guard and the CPU load was dramatically reduced!! I've still not figured out what could be the problem within Cubase or my RME Studio setup.

The reason for using Studio One is because of the scene recall, I have seven vocals with Waves Tune Realtime so I use scene recall to change keys for all the vocals. The only other DAWS that can do this is Cubase and ProTools.

I tried that as well, still not much of a difference. I'm convinced now that it's not a bug but just the way Cubase Audio Engine is designed. Cubase uses ASIO-Guard while Studio Ones uses Drop-Out protection which in my opinion is far superior to ASIO-Guard.

I don't unterstand these Update Politics by Companys like Steinberg and so on you got an good DAW and blow it up in size. I Used Cubase 5 Back in the Day and it was real nice comparing to Cubase 11 or 12. Because of that i stick to FL Studio where you get Lifetime Updates if you buy, also i noticed that many DAW and Plugin developers today don't care about CPU usage because they use High End Hardware and don't care about Lower Systems.

Among my many Win 11 tweaks (and there are many), I use LatencyMon. It helped find an AMD executable that was loaded into my laptop when I first bought it, and which I didn't know about for years. It also pointed out the heavy toll the internet took on my CPU and that I should optimize Win 11 for max performance in Power settings. I also disabled the onboard sound card although I'm not sure if that's actually a boost or not.

Cubase 12.0.50.... Works good for me, although my processor is a pretty old. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U, 8GB RAM, Windows 11. :)

No complaints here either with 12 or 11, but Im also on an i7 Mac Mini. We don't generally have to bend over backwards to get audio to run smoothly..

Yeah no doubt Cubase is good for Post Production where latency doesn't really matter but for mixing multitracks for livestream, forget Cubase or Nuendo.
