In 2012/2013 I collected 1831 freeware synthesizers. It is now 2021 and many of the freeware synthesizers are no longer available. Many websites no longer exist, some manufacturers have stopped production or replaced them with new products. So here the "backup" download, is an archive of all freeware synthesizers up to 2012. My thanks go to all creative minds who made the virtual software synthesizer possible.

For a drumkit emulation using not samples but synthesis, there is RC-808 which doesn't emulate only the TR-808 but any other drumkit you want, because it contains 16 x 8 synthesizers behind its drumpads, and you have access to them! 16 synthesizers, each one containing 8 layers with tons of features.

It is made by the now (very) old engineers who made the TR-808 for Roland in 1978 (it was released in 1980).

There is another synth that I would add to the list.


Blamsoft VK1 Viking - Emulation of the Moog Voyager monophonic analog synth. It has three continuously variable wave oscillators, two ladder filters with a Dual Lowpass or Highpass/Lowpass configuration, a multi-wave LFO, and two modulation busses. VK-1 uses state of the art DSP technology to accurately reproduce the sound of the hardware. VK-1 comes with 228 presets in the categories Bass, Bright Lead, Electro Bass, FX, Percussive Lead, Soft Lead, and Synthwave. The 50 Electro Bass and 50 Synthwave presets were created by experienced sound designer eXode. The synth excels at thick bass and rich lead sounds. At the heart of VK-1 are three adjustable wave oscillators. The continuously variable waveform knob gives the oscillators a unique sound that can’t be achieved with the fixed waveforms found in most synths. A noise oscillator provides three types of noise. Two modulation busses and an LFO provide flexible modulation capabilities. The filter is a classic transistor ladder filter modeled meticulously. Different drive modes are available for adding grit. The number of poles is adjustable for a wider range of filter sounds. The graphics of VK-1 have been completely redone with Retina support. Using experience gained over the past several years, the sound quality has been updated to sound more rich, smooth, and creamy.

Extent of the Jam Digits - Digits is a phase distortion synthesizer inspired by Casio's CZ series but takes that form of synthesis to the limit. Create warm pads, glitchy sounds, dirty basses, filthy sweeps, screaming leads, and anything in-between. The interface is minimal (and a bit outdated) and designed to enable the user to create sounds from scratch in record time! And, if you're too busy for that, it comes with over 70 lush presets that run the gamut from pads to stabs, leads and basses.
