For me it was volunteer work (Interviewing and editing for museum archives) with the elderly (when I was in my teens) which changed my view. The sheer struggles that many had with nobody to listen to them. I did that for 2 years until people who became good friends kept passing away and it became too much to bear.

That reminds of a joke I heard once. What time of day do most people go to the dentist?

    Tooth Hurty!

I wanted to do local volunteer work for seniors after watching this. The leading actor did shout that out at the end for younger folk to join in on that. Tbh when I was down bad like 10 years ago I had these same thoughts way before watching this movie but that fell through right when I got busy working again shortly after. I don't know if I could bear losing them after them sharing their wisdom and life stories with me then not being able to see them the next day would destroy me after connecting with them morally.

Also kudos to you for being such a selfless person and helping out those who need it most. They are just mirror images of ourselves in the end.

I lost two canines in that last 3 months in the exact same way. Biting awkwardly into a chicken bone.
They were both baby teeth the adult ones have been behind them just chilling all these years

Hello. I ran some tests for you guys and, believe it or not, after approximately after 25 years of meth use and 23 years of heroin my teeth aren't in such good shape. I'm 46 and missing darn near half of them i would say. It didn't bother me too much until i lost a couple up front. I didn't realize what a pain the ass it was to not allow yourself to smile or laugh if you are facing anybody due to embarrassment. The ground must think i am the happiest guy on the planet due to having to immediately look down if i start to laugh or crack a smile.
On top of that...since my gums are so exposed due to a tooth not being there if i bite into anything wrong (like a potato chip) its almost a guaranteed abscess and abscessed teeth are no fun.
At this point i'm just hoping they all fall out as soon as possible so i can just get dentures or something. I'd love to have a mouthful of implants (that includes the breast kind as well), but its outrageous what those things run for. I've heard up to five-grand per tooth. Good heavens that is a lot!
Anyhow, i hope you guys appreciate the time & effort & sacrifice I put in to bring you my results. It wasn't always easy or fun, but i'll do anything i can for you guys because groups like R2R and sister site have given me so much. It was the least i could do. Good Day!

I actually got no real teeth at all, and Yes sugar & drugs played a big role in that.

I've never had a cavity or any problems with my teeth, but a friend of mine shot me with a soft-air gun in the mouth when we were younger which did break one of my upper front teeth. That was a fun story to tell the dentist! She was not amused, not the slightest.

Well, you have to be like that. You can't just lay down and die if someone knocks your teeth loose. You get back up, dust yourself off and you go suck that fucker straight to his grave.

I feel like I'm learning more English slang.
Also that I have to be careful when putting that into practice. Just a hunch?

Whoa, those stats are eye-opening! It's crazy how common tooth loss can be as we age, right? It's definitely surprising to see the numbers laid out like that. Reminds me of when my grandma got dentures in her 60s. She found an amazing dentist through https://meetmydentist.com who made the process smooth and stress-free. It's a reminder to take care of our teeth while we still have them!

Here in Germany the full mouth of implants is paid by social insurance. Of course now everyone gets those implants although they are NOT the best replacement for every tooth.
The average for a complete replacement by implants is $25.000 and is paid by health insurance in full, just a small deductible. And even this has not to be paid if you are on minimum wage or welfare...

Last time I heard of the price of a $30.000€ (28.000€) replacement I had to laugh out loud.
It was in a 75 years old woman looking dried out like 6 month old orange. Now she looks dried out like a 5 1/2 months old orange. That money was well spent!

... as if we were all movie actors here.
At the same time, everyone is groaning under the heavy burden of social security contributions (~40% of gross income) and many, many hospitals have to be closed because there's not enough money. That makes soooooooooo much sense!

I wonder how much fluoridated water has to do with it.

I hear you. You're lucky it's covered and there's some funny stories there.
Yes, these days. it is definitely a financial balancing act. The hospitals closing seems to be happening a fair bit worldwide, though not as bad as where you are. That's appalling. I totally agree with you because without their health, people have nothing.
