Equipped with the same ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ DAC Technology found in audio interfaces costing thousands, the M6 delivers an astonishing 120 dB Dynamic Range on its main outputs. ESS converters also drive the headphone outputs, which rivals dedicated headphone amplifiers costing hundreds. Ultra-clean preamp circuits produce a measured -129 dBu EIN on the mic inputs. Capture and monitor your audio with pristine clarity.

I really wanted to like the MOTU M6. It was the best spec and highest quality computer audio interface around £400/ 500 USD, but it simply did not work on either of my Windows PCs (a Surface Pro 8 laptop and custom i7 intel desktop PC). All the other hardware I have works fine on either PC over USB.

I'm a nerd and electronic engineer, but couldn't work out why Windows wouldn't install the MOTU driver, or recognise the interface. I tried USB 3 and native USB C ports, different ports, different USB cables, different PCs, reinstalling drivers as administrator, running the MOTU program as administrator. Windows either didn't detect it, or reported that the interface had malfunctioned.

After years of coveting MOTU hardware, I don't think I'll touch them again. Really disappointing because the performance specification still trumps most other audio interfacs and I really wanted something better quality than my old Roland Quadcapture.

The most important thing when you're buying an audio interface is DRIVERS. Do they work? Do they work well? Fast?
Does it work with Linux? :) that one is my criteria. If an interface is USB compliant it should. MOTUs with USB do work with Linux.

M6 looks very good. Wonder how it fares against Audient iD24 and 44.

My TC SK48 is giving up after more than 10y of service and I will have to replace it at some point. Might be a year, two... I had to repair it once already. Changed a few of the capacitors in the PSU and a couple of caps in the AD path.
