Usually I wait a few months before upgrading macOS but it seems as Ventura is not bringing in many differences versus Monterey, is it risky to up upgrade I mean all plugins are compatible with Monterey anyway right?

I’d wait if I were you to avoid any possible compatibility issues.

    Good luck!

If you decide to upgrade, stop on Win10. Win11 isn't worth it. Too controlling, too much like macOS.

I updated by mistake. iMac Desktop 5k

Luckily, I'm not creating. On Ableton 11.2.5. it's working fine.
I tested a few instruments. AG L, Kontakt 7, Nexus 4, Serum, Omnishpere, Korg stuff, Tal stuff, Synapse Audio stuff, AIR plugins, Massive X, Pigments. No issues.

However. Sub Lab crashed Ableton and Sub Lab XL opens, but the data is missing. OB-E unregistered also, so secure the keyg.

    FL and Logic works fine.

Okay I'll wait then, maybe not a year this time, but like 6 months.

Annoying, but yeah better safe than sorry haha

Today i upgraded my Macbook M1 2020 from Monterey to Ventura.

Absolutely no issues regarding installed Plugins and DAW's, it all kept working.
I don't experience any higher/better performance in Ventura, in comparison to Monterey.
I do like that Ventura looks more like iOS than Monterey (subjective ofcourse)
All in all, a Happy Ventura user !

    Kind Regards.

I also use the "Wait a year", when buying new technology. They say the same thing about new car platforms and the first model year. So with something like the change to M1+ new processor tech, I will wait. But for the OS? No way. You can always make a Time Capsule first, or if you really had to downgrade back for some reason; it would still be quite easy to do. Even a botched release, Apple would quickly fix anything that arises.

I've been using Time Machine forever so yeah it wouldn't be an issue, yet, I don't wanna be wasting time in case I need to downgrade.

Downgrading is always risky despite what they say, and it's time consuming, so once I upgrade I never go back (never needed to anyway).

Thank you for the detailed feedback!

Yes it's what I anticipated. Ventura is just Monterey v2 rather than a new OS (not only the design, but the internal code/features). It's just a slightly enhanced version of Monterey with a few new features. But really nothing new, I feel like Apple could have even skipped this one, but I guess for marketing purposes they need to release one every Fall.

It's not like last time upgrading from Catalina/Big Sur, transitioning to ARM/64bit only system. Especially since I've been using my M1 for 2 years now so the VSTs should stay all compatible.

F*ck it, no wait this time, I pull the trigger xD

It's not Apple that worried me in the past, it's the inability of some developers to develop ARM compatible programs back in 2020. But this has been solved in the last couple years, they're finally all up to date... except D16 still working out a couple plugins that will be upgraded very soon.

That said I found this article (only in German) that lists what's compatible and what's not fyi:

I have a Digitakt so I'm not surprised Elektron Overbridge is not yet up-to-date, last time they took 6 months to upgrade to M1, this time should be a lot quicker they learnt... not a big deal, I'm not using it at the moment so I don't care.

Other than that, I doubt anything else is not compatible indeed. D16 is finalizing a few VSTs that should be M1 compatible very shortly.

I'm still on Big Sur, there's nothing worth the upgrade even in Monterey :chilling:

It's even faster on my end, I guess newer OS tend to make an even better internal use of the CPU cores memory and so on.
