I guess with inflation and prices going through the roof it seems it was a calculated risk.

 

When you are looking to wring more money out of existing customers it is usually because new sales have diminished. They might well remember this kind of thing the next time they think about coding some big new feature (or whatnot) if they view it as "free". The "Add-on" problem could go away entirely, if no-one bought it. I doubt we will see another batch from Spectrasonics either, when they did this sort of thing. (recently).
