Hi,
Feeling like quite a newbie with some releases I've been checking out

Pretty comfortable with most things like ISO's but not sure how to go about handling a release that's split into several parts.

Do I unpack them all into the same folder?
Do I run each .exe in sequence until all of them are done?

I haven't seen very clear instructions included with some of these so if someone could give me a bit of a pointer as to how to do that, it'd be much appreciate!

Mostly there's only one installation exe. Rarely a separate one for standalone and plugin.

Some I got my hands on recently had an .Exe in each .Rar so I was a bit disconcerted, didn't seem to be anything like Patching though...

Ah, when you look into the rar files, they often show the same content or are even seemingly empty, that's absolutely normal. When you unpack them, you won't find as many exes as rars.

 

If you're getting muti-part files from online, use JDownloader 2. It will concatenate the files for you. Then in the settings, set the archiver to delete the rar files after successful unpacking.

 

And once you have unpacked, you might want to "repack" (using WinRar, usually) to save as an archive for the future.
If it is something you know you want to always have, it is best to save it ;)

 

But if you want to ever share the file and do it this way, couldn't it cause problems later? Because of any data mismatching... I have always left the original archive alone, so I have never seen this mentioned before.

 

Well it depends on how it is shared.
From a trusted person it wouldn't matter, and the files inside would remain the same.
My backups are for my own use, so I always strip out anything I don't want and re-RAR.
If you want the original .RAR files, you may allow JDownloader to extract, but NOT delete the source RARs. (There is a checkbox for that)

Of course if it is a torrent the original source files have to be left alone if you are sharing with others.
