A very strange thing happened a couple of months ago that until now I haven't gotten around to investigating. Switching back and forth between "Automation Mode" requires either typing the "A" key or going to the top browser bar and clicking View, then from the list "Automation Mode", which is what I have resorted to doing since this issue came up. its obviously one of the most used and essential settings that needs quick access. Ever since Live 9 they changed how selecting and using this works, which I hate, but whatever.

I just updated to 11.1.6 and everything works perfectly, but this. its still doing it. I can type "A" in the Live projects, naming tracks etc no problem, and all other key shortcuts work fine, so I dont have a clue whats going on with just this one setting selection. I suspect I somehow did a weird bind with the "A" key or an update changed the "Automation Mode" setting or something. I have tried searching around but cant find anything specifically related. I dont know... any ideas?

 

Oops I should have put Ableton Live in the title... I guess theres no way to edit that now?

Ah I found it.. upper right corner tiny little drop down box "thread tools">edit title ;)

Check the Ableton Forums.. Someone recently posted a thread on the exact same subject (maybe it was you??) there. I haven't been following it lately (I hardly ever have trouble with Live so don't contribute much there) but there might be some hints or a solution there by now.

 

it wasnt me, but good to know im not the only one having the issue. will see if I can find the thread but I dont ever use their forum so I dunno

 

What the.. I found a youtube video that explains it/ dont know how I missed it before. I will leave it here in case anyone in the future has the same problem.

Lots of people had the same issue because Ableton changed the way the midi keyboard icon works and the letter A doubles as C note if using the pc keyboard to enter midi notes.

the way this guy says (I think) "M" first but then says it a few seconds later and sounds like "N" so not sure which it is until I go into the studio and try this but anyway its one of those. So the fix is M turn on/off midi keyboard +A to on/off automation - or just click the upper right corner midi keyboard piano looking icon and then A key and it works! YAY!!!
