i have a domain but i don't have a website on it.....godaddy tells me i need to pay a fee per month or something

I just need a very simple 1 page site...not selling anything....is there a free way to do this?

So what you need is a hosting? and an automatic installer? or do you know how to create a web page?

 

Another way is to just host it yourself, if it isn't anything important and driving a lot of traffic, and if you have a static IP. Also depends on your comfort level with computer stuff.

You could use IIS to set up a website. It comes with Windows, but you'll probably have to turn it on.. you can Google for the very simple steps to doing the step up, but the short notes (from memory).. turn on IIS, and within IIS add a website, drop your html (or whatever) in a folder on your PC, point your website to use that folder in IIS, start the site in IIS. At some point update your domain's DNS records on GoDaddy to point to your static IP (and wait up to 72 hours for that to "propagate" around the internet - in plain terms, it takes a while for all the Internet Service Providers of the world to recognize when a domain points to a new IP).

Outside of that, I'm not sure what free webhosts are out there (and what requirements they have to be free). Looks like Roberto mentioned one that will help if not comfortable hosting yourself.

Oh, speaking of ISPs, sometimes your ISP gives you webspace. It'll be a shitty amount of space, but you really don't need much at all, I'm guessing. I'm sure there's several other good free hosting options though, I just haven't used any.

if it is a top level domain name, all you have to do is enable URL gripper and forward it to whatever http/https target you want. The DNS change can take up to 24 hours for you to see the effect. Propagation time is typically not predictable.

You just need to make the page and stick it somewhere permanent.

Check out NearlyFreeSpeech.net. It is VERY cheap hosting, especially if you have a small site and little size and bandwidth requirements. I have hosted there from time to time for small projects or a temporary personal web site. You only pay for what you use and the traffic it generates. Overall it can be very cheap. Their cost estimator came out with the OP paying only $4.82 USD per year! (it might be less than that) You just put $5 on account and you're good to go. They will draw from that as needed monthly. You can also do much more if you want a bigger/better web site.

my point was that someone asking for a free page really doesn't require even half what the above reasonable cost solutions offer. We go from Angelfire homepage to needing FTP access in the blink of an eye.

 

Well, I have done something for me, back in 2007 just html, to put some songs. Using the free server of

I just checked and apparently they still have free hosting.
At that time they used to crash a lot, I don't know about now. But for very simple things it works. It would be different if you have a lot of traffic.
The best one I used for free hosting was Hostinger, but I looked at their site and I didn't see that they have free hosting now, but you could look more closely to see if there is anything. Hostinger was very good for me, I put a wordpress (a blog) of tricks for games and the truth excellent for being free.
Then there is another one that I think is from Spain, very easy to use and very elegant, but, I don't know very well with the domain issue, I know it was free if you chose the domain that they gave you, that is subdomain.

I also had a music site there, very elegant with everything they give you. But again, with low traffic stuff.

Regarding using your PC as a server, I see it a bit risky, I don't know, I was always suspicious of it. also for your server to be online you have to have your PC on all day long. This might work if you had a separate PC.
I don't know much about it either, what I've done I've done in an "Amateur" way out of pure curiosity. So well, take my comment as a piece of information.
