i took some dune 3 presets, ran them through my fender princeton reverb (tubeamp) and recorded the outcome with 4 different mics.
    preamp - neve 1073LB
    soundcard - RME PCIe
on the keyboard - a child who cant play (just kidding its me but i did this kinda for chopping it up lmao not trying to play perfectly dont judge *cope*

    mics: m160 beyerdynamic, shure sm58, shure pg52, neumann km184

i added the raw dune 3 bounce software only, then all 4 mics seperatly, and 1 mix of everything.

in retrospect i am happy with the experiment, but the micing bouncing took so long that i kept thinking, sure would have been smart to spend more time on the source composition lmao
    but thats me, big brain

the purpose for me was to see which mics i like better, and that i found out.
at this point i really like the ribbon m160 + the sm58 + vst sound.

its my first try and my ears are kinda blown out rn il have to check back to see how i like it

anyways i hope somebody finds this useful

Dune3 source (direct bounce software only)

    m160 (ribbon mic)

    sm58

    pg52

    km184

quick blend of all sources (mostly used vst + m160 + sm58)

after all my impression is that this improves the sound of the vst only, but at the same time i feel like i have not yet "hit the spot" where its just right.

    what do you guys think?

btw these files should be downloadable and its wav in case anybody wanna play around with it

The truth is that it sounds different from the vst alone. It doesn't sound the same as the other sound you posted before, but it does have a nice color. Good job

this one sounds great : "quick blend of all sources (mostly used vst + m160 + sm58)"

Software only sounded best to my ears. I also liked the SM58.

    i can respect that too,
to me, none of the mics by themselves sound better than software, but i do prefer the blend.
especially with the very first short bass sample, i find the blend much better than vst only.

on the first set I like the m160 of the first 3. the sm58 is too bright, comparatively. around the 1:10 mark.

Direct "in your face" VST with no room ambiance get more punch.

Try to mic closer (if possible) and find a spot to get more MIDS : it will bring the punch back (with some bass loss)

Loved that blend, but when put against the beat i feel any of the amp'd takes will need more processing than the vst alone to fit well. Also, you loose the stereo-ness of the original for obvious reasons. But overall i think it's worth the extra effort if you have the time, sounds really nice.

Blend is my fav. I love my M160 on acoustics and electric - my desert island guitar mic.
