Do DAWS have an audio engine? Sound Quality wise are Cubase 5 and 12 the same?

No, it's that Havana says that there is a difference in the sound, and it says that above all in the mids. I remember testing the sound about 8 years ago with different Daws, and never found an "audible" difference. But he says yes, so I say, if so, it should be seen on a spectrum analyzer. No?

In my opinion, I don't think there is any significant difference (if there is).

If you play one file in 2 daws; they should sound as close to identical as someone could distinguish. But if those two songs were produced, mixed, and mastered; using those same two daw software packages only; do you really believe the same song will get created and sound nearly as "identical" as your null test result would make you believe?

They have changed the engine many times since cubase 5. Noobs and weekend hobby producers will not hear anything different.
DMG equick and cubase stock eq should sound the same, but in reality DMG equick sounds much better and less harsh.
    Same thing with daws.

If you apply absolutely nothing apart from the same pan law (jump to 4:00 for the immediate result)

Or like Mohawk says at 2:36

If you apply even a fade

did the old cubase handled it's internal mixer in floating point precision?
a 6dB over would without it would be 100% noticeable on a mixer bus.

Only blind test can make a justice in this dispute, like they did it with sound cards (somewhere 12 years ago they did comparison $1000/$25 cards) and nobody disproved it till now...

I bet some people base their opinion about the sound on how a fucking gui looks
Like they keep saying ableton has cold sound and reason has warm but low quality engine

Wow This debate is still going on. I can't believe it.
To me the only way any DAW will sound better is if you upgrade your Audio interface to a better one. But with your new device they again will all sound the same. This One DaAW sounds better than another is all Marketing B.S.

Developers literally release videos and notes telling you about the upgraded sound engine with almost each release, they have been doing it for a long time yet you are either smarter or know more things than the coders and developers themselves.

Yes, and those engine upgrades do make a difference in sound, but only for certain aliens who can hear the 3.8GHz processor whine during mixdown.
Other than that the upgrades make no audible difference.

If one can hear a difference and if it even matters is a different thing, but saying there are no differences is not a valid scientific answer.
Most people can not hear an audible difference between a compressed 128kb mp file, 320kb file and an uncompressed file either.
