To compress the highs. This technique has its flavour.

Luftikus is the same thing but free.

With a de-esser (dynamic attenuation) you can reduce the spit, yet up the highs (fixed EQ) to compensate and get a more consistent top-end.

That's why you treat your tracks with tape emulations. It alters the sound in a healthy way so when you boost there's no siz, but sheen

Well, somewhat off-topic but I think you've missed the point a little bit here... or I don't get it.

First of all, on the subject of "CPU hog":
E27 has a fairly complex harmonics pattern in a multistage design. Analyze it via hammerstein graph and you'll see what I mean.
That considered, E27 is anything but a CPU hog. It's definitely not lightweight, but more efficient than True Iron.
Also, in general CPU usage should not matter at all in a mastering context.

Secondly to "no precise freq, no Q":
Well, yes, E27 does not have an adjustable Q. That's kind of the point of such an EQ: fixed frequencies and vari-Q.
IMO "no precise freq" is kind of a weird argument you're making here, since the bands in E27 interact with each other, which mainly affects the level, but also shifts bands by up to 6Hz (which is quite common with analog EQs).

The specific reason I pointed out the E27 is that the frequency selection and wide filters are excellent for mastering purposes. The filter gain is in quarter dB steps (the shift key is your friend). You can do relatively little wrong with this EQ in the mastering process. That being said, of course, any other EQ will do an equally good job if you know what you're doing.

Nope, it's not. I suggest a blind test.

This. when OP said harshness in the 600-6k range i immedialy thought 2-3k, then people began to talk about de-essers. Could use a better description of the issue.

If i understood correctly, the problem only happens after the boost. Using one of these to boost could avoid the problem alltogether if all you want to do is boost presence in general. It's a possibility anyway.

Ah, I see, obviously I need to explain my post a bit.
    OP said
which lets me think he already tested a bunch of them. So he either doesn't know how to use an EQ properly (could be) or he has a very specific problem. And in that case I would never use EQs like Clariphonic, Bliss or E27 no matter how good they sound where appropriate. I never meant to say they sound bad, you only can't adjust them precisely enough to address a specific problem.

I think the poster was aiming for "mechanized".

Should've been more precice with the wording.
It's the same feature set and curves. Admittedly they handle gain, and nonlinearities, differently.
And using it is kinda pointless anyways because SlickEQ does both the "magic curve" and the "magic saturation" better.

Isn't it also what Soothe is basically doing, but with it's own "black box" whatever?

Don't you feel like there's too much highs and too little mid-lows? Highs are fine, but excessive, especially for the style.

Soothe looks at FFT. Spiff looks at dynamics.
