The emu^, is an exact recreation of the Virus A,B&C. It's a cpu killer because it can only utilize only a single core. But updates come every month or so...

For the TI I've heard the Adam Szabo Viper vst is nearly spot-on. I've read it'll load Virus banks, but not sure banks from the TI... But it does load the TI's wavetables.

It's an only Windows software, so I haven't tried it (macOS). But I've listened to demos, and it sounds pretty close. Btw, I own a TI kb.

Apart from the real deal (the free DSP56300 project) there's Adam Szabo Viper to get the closest experience to a Virus TI (with import of original soundbanks as well), after that you got Spire, Sylenth1 and the defunct Zeta2 from Cakewalk, those are the closest Virusy vibes you can have in vst form.

Viper (Virus preset import BUT it is not 100% accurate (and never will))
Spire (some TI users sold it after trying it)
    Dune 3
    ...

Z3TA 2 sounds average by today standards
    I stopped using it

I don't know why people keep saying it's free. It's not. You need to own a Virus to dump the ROM file from. The DSP56300 developers don't supply those ROM files for a reason.

Oh c'mon, let's not play dumb here. Do you really think that 99% of the users own a real Virus ROM to use that software?
Coming from this place and the users fan base from the sister site? Please.

I know that'd be the correct legit legal way to use it, but let's be honest here.
It wasn't a project made for the elitist users who could afford a real Virus hardware synthesizer, it was made to preserve a legacy of a legendary instrument that sooner or later will meet the test of time and the impossibility of continuing its production due to the lack of Motorola chips.

please let us know your thoughts. Im a bit wary of sample based romplers (thats what this is right?) but who knows.. anybody else use it? hows it stack up? thanks.

What about the ROMs? They are included when you download the DSP56300.

Being able to afford a Virus TI is somehow "elitist"? They are 3 grand. That's less than some guitars you see high school kids playing at their little battle of the bands. You could spend more on an original TB303, which is about 1/1000000 the synth. When they produce no more is when they will become outrageously expensive. Sell an 808 to somewhere in Studio City and you could buy 2 of them. You could spend more on a high quality analog compressor. Easily.

People seem to magically act silly every time this synth comes up in discussion. Is every suburban mother driving her kids to school in a 80,000$ SUV now Mario Andretti? It's all perspective.

So right it's the same for any type of Emulator and we should be happy for that great work. And @clone i think since new 808 with better connections for modern Producers are available prices dropped a little and there are nice Vsts which do the Job. But you are right for many Producers SP-1200 and 808 are the Holy Grail and they will pay lot of money for it but for 80 bucks you get FAW Sub Lab and waveTracing SP-950 and you good to go.

I agree with you, but the ROMs are not included on the official site for legal reasons. They're only included with the bundles on the sister site. Otherwise, you'd have to download them elsewhere or dump them yourself

there are so many sites that keep those midi dumps online. great free resources. that's hardly going to separate them from doing the other synths they have planned to emulate. (maybe without even owning them, idk)
