Hi guys!

Today I started playing with vocoder sounds and wondered if it could be done with any instrument.
So load up a VSTi instrument and hit it in a loop (Pad). On top of it, I put an expander, but it only activates when the signal comes in. Then the loop is silent, until a signal comes in. Ok, now I loaded an audio track and sidechained the noise gate, this way every time I put out a signal (my voice) the instrument started playing.
In addition, I put a multiband to the voice signal, so that it plays with the frequencies.

What do you think? sound vocoder? or is it crap? hahaha

Do you know any other technique like this? without using a vocoder.

 

Congrats! Yes, it's fun. I remember these good experimental times when I was starting out.
Now try run drumloops (modulator) on strings and synths (carrier).

Well, it's very similar to a vocoder sound processing.
I don't know how many bands you use, for a vocoder is from 10 to 20+ bands, plus also modulator is split with the same number of bands, each one excites the relative band of carrier OR you can "matrix" (patch it) it to a different band.
You can in fact use any carrier.

 

the rob paper Rocoder apparently has more features than most of my synths do.

Yesterday I wanted to try Artutia V. Because according to some videos, it was one of the best Vocoders, but Studio one doesn't have Sidechain in Instruments. So you can't send audio signal to an instrument.
