Hey guys, here's your friend "The Orc :woot: " ,with a question.

On the right side of the sister site we always have the section for software, plugins, samples, etc. Free.
Thanks to this (in my case and I suppose in several) I find out many things for free that otherwise I would not find out.
Now, I know that many people download not only because it's free, but because they surely want to have it in an original, legal way, etc (Otherwise all the content on the sister site is free, :winker:)
But what about the licensing issue, if you download from the sister site? do you have the same? because I have seen that many times in the original page of the author to be able to have that material in a legal or legitimate way, you have to register or they send you the license to the email.

The right side has the heading "Archive".

Free is not quite right, you pay with your data. Which are evaluated or sometimes even resold.
Sometimes you suddenly get much more spam and advertising mails. Some companies want to
lure you on your side with freeware, maybe you buy something. Freeware is sometimes marketing.

If you don't want all this or you can't register, for example, there are technical problems and lack of
data protection, you will surely want to use the offer of the sister site and download the product there.

From a legal point of view, I can of course advise you against this and recommend
you to download directly from the manufacturer and provide your email address.

Total Agree with you @BEAT16 in todays world wide web if it says for free they make more money of your web profile and advertising and it will be sold on and on and many people don't know that. In the EU you can always request to delete your Data and much more.

    For EU

    https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1552662547490&uri=CELEX:32016R0679

    For US

    https://www.varonis.com/blog/us-privacy-laws

    For DE only

    https://dsgvo-gesetz.de/

You can do this also on government related stuff. Know your rights :mates:

And the Free Stuff on Sis Site is there to safe your data most of the time license is in an txt file or so for free libaries so don't delete these and nobody can tell if from Dev Page or from Sis Site.

well, in my experience; the "free" offerings from developers and small "companies" are often the first things to disappear from their original file locations. Maybe the website is even completely gone. Someone producing a track thinks using a Free plugin, etc won't cause any problems later. So some silly free utility/plugin disappearing becomes a real problem after someone formats a year later; loses the installer, and has mixes and completed projects that were built with that plugin inside the project. Short Version: You're screwed unless you can track down the old software. This is why many users archive everything.

About half the PMs I get are from Mac users asking for a specific free tool a guy took off his website. Very useful things can just up and disappear for no reason.

Just mentioning it. What if you have a library/sample/vst etc. And the site is gone. That material becomes "unlicensed" that is "it's already yours, so you wouldn't have bought it? because if you have let's say a sample library and then the site is gone. Who will ask you for the license?

The developer or the creator will, not the site. They do have e-mails and a normal life like all human beings, they do not vanish in thin air because a site or the company they have been worked closed.

To answer your question in a concise way, if the freeware is associated with a license, better obtain it form Dev site with its license.
