The results from DawBench Vi vs German computer magazine (May 19th 202) are quite contradicting.
Anyone care to comment on that? Cause the difference for the 5800X3D and 5900x etc. is huge...

The results of the German computer magazine are very reliable. They have also written a long article about it that leaves no questions unanswered. Could you post a link from DawBench where we can see the results of the 5800X3D compared with other CPU's?

I'm surprised that 5600X was ignorred in this topic.
The 5600X is very close in single thread performance to higher 5000 CPU's. It can be easily bumped to 4.8 GHz when it gets even closer to the upper generational cousins. The actual difference is in core number. But core number is not reliable benchmark in the sound processing.
It takes only one core overload to bring the rest of 1000 cores to halt. The number of cores in the music production usually means shit.
The main problem with sound processing is latency.
The more cores the more CCX introducing intercore latencies. 5600X has only one CCX.
That said, I'm not saying that more cores are useless. They are very useful in specific circumstances. Like having many instances of orchestral instruments from the same vendor. When you know that all your instances won't go overboard.
I don't think the 100 or 200euro difference is worth it for the gains you may get unless you're in the category I've mentioned.

I guess considering the 5800X3D performance, i think Zen4 should be a no brainer. I think I would/will wait for it.

The 58003D performance is related exclusively to gaming. It's not relevant to anything else.

I can only suggest based on my experience. I had a Ryzen 7 3800x for about a year. Most of my work consists of at least 40-50 tracks, About 30% of those are Kontakt instruments running orchestral libraries. With 64gb RAM, I could run most projects pretty flawlessly, but every once in a while I would get a hiccup on certain VSTs like the Ample Sound Guitars, etc. Once I upgraded to a 5900x, that all went away. Mind you, I'm overclocking my CPU to 4.8ghz but it rarely gets above 65 degrees on a full load. It can handle a lot of voltage. Projects load about 30% faster, I rarely if ever get a hiccup from a cpu hungry VST (except for Pigments. Fuck you Arturia) and I could have a full project open and playing flawlessly while browsing the internet, playing youtube videos, etc. I can set my buffer to about 128 with the same amount of tracks and never get a crackle. It could be just my configuration but I'm stoked on the upgrade. The 5950 wasn't worth the price point to me with the minimal gains vs the 5900x. Plus it handles any modern game I throw at it if I ever feel like randomly gaming. I don't anticipate needing an upgrade for at least the next 5 years or so.

Then you haven't read correctly the test results.

You surely can serve us a more appropiate test with better results as you seem to be an expert in this area.

Higher buffer settings, such as 512 samples, may produce different results than these.

DAW performance is a combination of many factors, including memory, disk, audio interface driver, and DAW design, as well as CPU processing power.

With a 128-sample buffer, CPU performance is usually not even half of what it could be due to bottlenecks in other factors.

However, the results of this German magazine should be true under these conditions.

Yep, that's true. At the same time is a reasonable buffer for DAW work.
Perhaps the two main factors that restrain CPU speed when using small-mid buffers are:
    1. RAM latency
    2. The other kind of latency: the synchronization of the different cores every bunch of samples

Apple may use DDR5 RAM but they have what nobody else has: it's embedded on the main chip. That should be a quite lower RAM latency when compared to any other CPU using the mobo PCIe lanes to access the RAM (the speed must also be bananas).

The limit of a 128-sample-buffer it's the same for all tested CPU's, it only pushes the limits a bit faster to the end. And as already was said before, 128 (or 256) samples are reasonable buffer sizes for DAW work, so I don't see any problems with the results of the tested CPU's for the decision which CPU has best performance under the given circumstances of my first post in this thread.

If your DAW is not Pro Tools or Cubase, the 5800X3D is the right choice today.

I am amazed at the high performance Pro Tools gets on the same CPU compared to other DAWs. Logic also has the same performance as Pro Tools, but it is Mac-only. What are the differences between these DAWs?

So far, the 3D shows no substantial improvement in other than games. Please show me otherwise.

Please tell us about the rest of the hardware, motherboard, power supply, what RAM, and cooler, if you don’t mind.

The 5000 series were a dramatic bump on single thread performance. You could have probalby the same experience with 5800x or 5600x.
Anyway, I think you don't have to worry about the processing power for the next 5-10 years.

    I only have a MSI Gaming Z RTX 2060

I only really game at 1080p. And it handles everything fine. I see prices are finally coming down though so I might grab a 30 series later down the road

    Sure

Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Max WiFi

GPU: MSI Gaming Z RTX 2060

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 64gb (16x4) @ 3600ghz

drives: windows 11 is on a 1tb WD M.2 ssd. Samples and large vst libraries on an old 8tb wd sata drive (wish I could afford an 8tb ssd)

EDIT: last night I discovered the magic of running all your large VST libraries (Kontakt, Nexus, Omnisphere, etc) off of a m.2 NVMe Drive. Holy shit, lightning fast. so I just installed another 2tb nvme drive just for kontakt, nexus, omnisphere, etc)

cooling is an AIO off of Amazon: ID-Cooling FROSTFLOW X 240 CPU Water Cooler AIO Cooler 240mm CPU Liquid Cooler White LED 2x120mm PWM Fans, Intel 1700/115X/2066, AMD AM4 https://a.co/d/4raWOOE

forgot what brand my psu is, but it’s a modular 750w

Case is a cooler master TD500
