Ear and Hearing Maintenance

    I cannot add anything much other than one thing because everyone else has covered most of the important physical and sociological things.
    This one thing for me, is to always be aware of your environment and the things you have a choice in and those you do not. ALWAYS. If you are a musician or an engineer, it's your livelihood you are generating that awareness in.

    P.S. In the environments you have no choice in, often, you do have a choice to remove yourself from them.

    Nice infos !
    I make my own liposomal Vitamin C.
    It is cheap and effective for a lot of things.

    250 ml tempered water + 30g Ascorbic acid
    Mix at slow speed until dissolved
    Add 15g soy lecithin (or equivalent lecithin)
    Mix at slow speed until it become "milky"

    Add another 250ml water
    Keep in the fridge
    It will last around two weeks ... you will finish it before :wink:

    Use around 3 table spoons every day (45ml) in some water : you get 2g per day.
    And NO there is NO "too much" vitamin C.
    I've done it for several weeks without any problem.
    Some ppl even take around 10g a day in urgency ... like hearing loss ? :wink:

    someone "hear" (heyyyyy thanks i'll see myself out now) might appreciate this video -



    about the brain, hearing, learning and such... i'm not done with this one yet but his other videos are great, super long and dense but broken down in chapters. i almost guarantee you'll find something of use on his channel, which makes it sound like he's a self-help guru dude (i guess technically he is) but he's a tenured professor of neuroscience at Standford who's been published and seems to be 100% legit as far as I can tell- i'm not a tenured professor though. He specializes in vision but i trust he knows how to read a peer reviewed paper, he's very cautious with his words and citing sources.

    that's basically me saying it's not healing crystals, its geared around current best guesses based on evidence science can provide. early in the video he mentions some new research into tinnitus which is why i wanted to share (fortunately i don't have it, but as a musician obviously it's like a nightmare), maybe old news by now but worth checking out if it might help.

    2 more things-
    good 5 minute video explaining fletcher-munson curves, which basically as i understand it are as the db goes down the frequency range doesnt remain linear, its like there is a low and high shelf attenuation. which you can totally hear, but i guess if youre not really paying attention or if you're just used to it happening cuz it does every single time you might not put your finger on it immediately. it's good to know about it just in general cause it's interesting, but it's certainly related to protecting your ears as you'll want to keep it in mind.




    on hydrogen peroxide-

    every site i saw come up on google and duck duck go said hydrogen peroxide was generally fine to use- i'm including the top link as because i thought it was pretty funny "bulk peroxide.com" recommended cleaning ears with hydrogen peroxide- probably like a pools worth haha. it seems like there was some common sense caveats like, if your eardrums is burst don't dump peroxide on it... but dunno. i found some papers mentioning it but my eyes kinda glazed over, i'm not that invested it's just i've always heard peroxide was safe in general- like more so than the q-tips.

    hydrogen peroxide works well on NON damaged ears (only "clogged").
    I used it along my ear cleaner (see above) and it dissolve ear wax very well.
    Only with VERY clogged NON damaged ears.

    A less aggressive alternative is oil based dissolver. Like "Cerulyse" in France.
    But you need to use it ALONG an ear cleaner (see my post above), or at least tempered water in the shower.

    bruh i bought new ath m20's, used sonarworks sound id reference for corrective eq and two weeks after using, i'm having all sorts of ear problems, been to doctor too many times, now i have tinnitus in one ear too. I wasn't even listening at high dbs

    Be careful listening to small speakers ALL the time, like movies, news, videos, music. Somehow they pump out garbage frequencies causing tinnitus problems. My experience.

    Your post tells me I really should wear glasses when reading posts on this site. I could have sworn at first glance it said "Tepid".
    Tempered water is apparently, according to google, defined as "Water having a temperature range between 85F (29"C) and 1l0F (43"C)".
    I suppose if a person lived in the equator that might possibly qualify as tepid. :facepalm:

    Thanks, I should have edited that I looked it up after a bit. Two ands...My mind also went to tepid first in a sort of mind allusion, and...not only is the water between those that range as you mentioned, but the tempered bit is because it is water that was originally heated to a higher temperature and then "tempered" by adding cold water to bring the temp down. Who knew:dunno:.

    Edit: I should have known from tempering steel or glass in the manufacturing process to make them harder.

    It also raises the eyebrows considering the potential fluctuating temperature, what the correct temperature it is actually supposed to be. I would have thought something more like distilled water but what would I know?:deep_facepalm:

    I suppose I should be grateful I was not a young adult in the 1960s LSD period because I'd probably think a well tempered clavier was someone who chopped up fish eggs and cooked them between 85 and 110F :facepalm:

    Or in the Height-Ashbury period where people would roll up almost anything with gunja.

    Most good music is designed to be listened to and enjoyed. If it is blaring and causing hearing loss, anyone would have a hard time convincing me they are actually enjoying it. This stems back to my original comment about always being aware of one's environment. Thanks for that. BACH was a genius.

    Yeah regarding herbs, curcumin and ginkgo help, and regarding vitamins and minerals vitamin C and magnesium. Those herbs enhance blood circulation and vitamins help to boost your immune system. Basically, 1-2 Lemons [2 cups of lemonade is best for stomach and absorption] before meal and eating 1-2 spoons of minced pumpkin seeds with your breakfast [whole oats - also contains great mix of minerals and vitamins] will help you with that.

    Omega-3 oil also helps, so add a spoon of minced flux seeds to it if you want. I do. Flux seeds are chock full of omega-3. :wink:
