Can anyone recommend any looping software (not iPad based) to be used for MAC?

Also, I understand Abelton is probably best for the job but I want to keep to using LOGIC/Mainstage...

You can loop every part of arrangement in any DAW?

for example reaper: load audiofile, and select area you want to loop! I think Logic can do the same, consult your DAW manual.

Thanks guys but I looked into live looping before (that particular video linked) and my understanding is that logic is still somewhat lacking in this regard....

I would want a virtual setup similar to something that Ed Sheeran uses where you could choose different sections of each song...

MSuperLooper of the best pieces of software I've seen to date but unfortunately it's outside my budget right now.. :(

Do you mean you'd like to have a kind of backing track with sections (intro, chorus, bridge…) that you can trigger? And at the same time a live looper to record on the fly a voice or a guitar or else?
It's a bit tricky but you can do this kind of thing in Mainstage with Looper and Playback… not as easy as in ableton but it's possible.

Unfortunately this program is very old and has no compatibility with M1's... it might work with 32 lives for olde MACs... aside from that I have heard great things about it and even in fact that Ed Sheeran has used it or still does himself at some point!

Yes, but I would create the "backing tracks" by laying them down at points I choose to do so in the performance...

Yes right now the Mainstage option looks like it's the best free option for me as it stands...

There's a guy on YouTube (Jordan Colburn) who has some tutorial videos about how to set up the loops on Mainstage...

He has his own page where he gives a 2 track looper away for free, a 5 track looper 25 euro and a custom one for 100 euro...

I wouldn't go handing out cash before trying to build my own one though and have a look at his and others tutorials... and this is where ideally an app would just simplify and hopefully excel at this (for example with a nice user-interface)

Logic Pro X got an Ableton style looper since Version 10.somewhat.

MSuperLooper is installed as part of the Melda Complete bundle. Along with the 16in/16out and 16out versions. I would definitely demo something like this before buying it. All of these kinds of programs have their own little quirks and special considerations. Often everything will be perfect for your setup, and then you encounter the one programming decision they made which makes it a complete deal breaker and it becomes useless for your intended use.

If you intend autoloop live performance (features like Boss RC-505) then Ableton is the way to go. The Logic live loop feature it's not that versatile.

Beardyman: a virtuoso of autoloop: here’s one of his videos with a DMC DJ remixing his song
