I'm using an HP32F with my MacBook for the same type of use. Videos, DAW, web, and no gaming. It does nothing special, it was on sale and inexpensive, and the resolution is more than good enough for anything I do. It would be a good model to use for comparison shopping.

Does your Macbook have a UHD-770 Graphics card? I just want to be sure I am using it, not over or under but, to its full potential, if thats possible.

If you never plan on using a dedicated graphics card with that computer, any decent 1920 x 1080p monitor will do. Supports up to 4K @ 60Hz but, will require more shared memory and, an excellent cooling solution. At 4K the CPU will be constantly boosting cores & graphics engine.

No, I am just using an inexpensive 32in flat screen for the same usage type. The MBP drives a retina screen when open, and I'm just running a hdmi connection from a thunderbolt 3 hub when it's closed.

Your last monitor may have lasted 10+ years, but I think you may be overthinking this for your purpose. I would shop on price, primarily. Buying a new monitor used to be like buying a new car, now it is more like a new pair of shoes.

The i5-12600K is of similar performance as the i7-12700K , but at a much lower cost.

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-12700K-vs-Intel-i5-12600K/4609vs4603

For the type of light-medium work, you would likely be using a fraction of the i7's potential most of the time. Really, a i7 is a money trap for people that don't do their homework.

    According to ark intel, https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...25m-cache-up-to-5-00-ghz.html#tab-blade-1-0-4

Your i7 supports 8K for DP, and probably 4 monitors at 2-4K, so not using the "full potential" in the display department with 1 monitor, either.

Conclusion: you likely purchased a CPU which is too much for your needs & likely not using it to its "full potential".

Your problem is gaming, gaming needs fast response times and a graphics card with enough memory. Your Intel graphics chip can support some older games. but it is not enough for modern games.

What is your priority rather gaming or graphic design? I use a LG 4K monitor, 60Hz with IPS and display port, but I only play music and read. 4K makes everything much sharper. IPS is very good for graphic design, it displays colors better.

    LG 32UP550-W 80,01cm (31,5") 4K UHD LCD Monitor HDMI/DP/USB HDR FreeSync - 299 EUR

    - 32 inch QHD display (2,560 x 1,440)
    - refresh rate of 165 Hz
    - VA with 5 ms (GtG)
    - HDR10 & sRGB 95% (typ.)
    - AMD FreeSync™ Premium
    - Nearly bezel-less design

    www.lg.com/de/monitore/lg-32gn600-b

    LG UltraFine 32UN880-B, 31.5" - 599 EUR

LG equips this excellent 31.5-incher with a Nano IPS panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) at 60 Hz. In the PRAD test, it received the grade "very good" due to the very good picture quality, a first-class viewing angle stability, high energy efficiency, and comprehensive mechanical adjustment options. FreeSync without LFC is installed for the occasional game. USB-C is also not missing, but 24 Hz support for Blu-ray movies is. There is room for improvement in the picture homogeneity, which is weaker in the peripheral areas. We should not expect any miracles from the HDR10 support.

Use the UHD-770 and buy the same any old low quality cheap 1080p 60hz -or- buy a decent graphics card capable of utilizing a 32" HDMI 2.1 2k-144hz 1440p + matching monitor for 4x the price?

Is there THAT much (4x) of a noticeable difference in picture quality between the two scenarios or is it just a little less game lag, a little more game detail sort of thing? As I said, I'm not doing 3d animated architectural structure CGI modelling or anything, just 8-12 hours of daily DAW work, some light gaming, movies, basic web design, album artwork and simple music videos.

Come on guys, help me decide! And be specific with specifications because I am literally shopping now and deciphering the whacky amount of buzzword sales speak trickery is doin my fn head in.

Also, I need to buy another 16gb stick of ddr5 and waiting for pcie 5 to get another large ssd. how fun. this fun. computers are fun.

Hello @terrific! For about 357.47 EUR you get a monitor that already represents the latest in technology.
From the rest of the money you can buy a SSD.

I was only concerned with game performance.
Please read my previous posts, I have already recommended monitors to him.

I'm amused to see no mention of your motherboard choice so far,
actual pixel throughput of the given video connection defines the limits of what resolution, refresh rate, SDR/HDR (8bit/10bit) monitor can be driven,
cheap 12th gen compatible motherboards don't even have DisplayPort at all, and HDMI image tends to be inferior,
    here's a chart for reference:

    lol pathetic,
actually Intel integrated graphics, especially those 11-12th gen Intel cpus, are superior when it comes to video editing/rendering thanks to optimized Intel QuickSync technology and full H.264 and H.265 hardware acceleration on both decoding and encoding

    I have a i9 12900k with the same iGPU UHD 770. Im using a Samsung CF791 (34") @ 3440x1440 100 Hz.

You should also go for a 100 Hz screen atleast.

For only the DAW the IGPU is more then enough and can handle 4k Stuff. But if you wanna play games even those are not that heavy i would still get a extra Card. RTX 40xx Series coming in the next few months if you wanna wait.
