I was really hoping that we would get to see some new stuff from Herbert now that he is updating all his old plug-ins to 64-bit, and here it is: FlavourMTC "Mixbus Tone Control"

I know that we already have more than enough Pultec style equalizers, but it's still a good sign of things to come that he is actually developing new plug-ins :) It's not 100% like the classical design of a Pultec either (200/330/500Hz for the low-band, 150/250/400Hz cut and a 10/18/30kHz Baxandall style hi-shelf). The hi-shelf definitely feels more useable than on a classic Pultec EQ and the transformer saturation on the output is a nice, but subtle, bonus.

I can't believe they're distributing it for free. They are making great plugins.

I've found a funny behaviour. Depending on the calibration it's compressing the signal quite a lot. Just to show that this isn't normal for saturation plugins (to that extent), I compared this behaviour to Blackrooster's VPRE-73. Max saturation and output adjusted, FlavourMTC set to -18dB

    VPRE is the straight line

Holy shit that's so awesome! Such a gentle knee is hard to achieve with a clipper.

I could pretty much match it with a compressor. Ratio 1.6:1, threshold -24dB and a knee of 30dB.

Oh, I forgot, it does have even different timings for the calibrations [IMG]

Oh. I thought it's not time-domaim. Alright, it's indeed easy to replicate then.

I'm guessing that the saturation/compression is inspired by the one in BootEQ (my absolute favorite channel strip EQ!) :)

In Vintage mode the curves are pretty similar (BootEQ has a higher threshold) in Modern mode not (higher threshold, higher ratio, less knee).
