Did you folks know that the "modern" drum kit, you know, snare+kick+hats+cymbals+toms etc. was originally called a trap kit? Shit you not.

Wikipedia says it's shortened from "contraption" but I always thought it came from the fact that the words "trap" and "snare" are synonyms in English.

Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just resign..
Resign and take all the Crappy Guitar Amp modellers + all the Snares that Suck + All the Imperfect Strings libraries..

And just put them together and use them bare as they come,
create a New Style based on that, and include a disclaimer on the booklet..

Crappy Amp modellers, Sucky Snares and Imperfect Strings forced us to create this new style,
it was either this, or waiting for the industry to do a proper Amp, Snare or String for once, apathy/ostracism and death..

We couldn't wait no more so we bring you the music of the future

 

I think there are enough good amp modellers, very decent snare and drum samples and excellent string libraries to make some good music. Try to learn how to use them and stop the excuses.
Besides, a good quantity of great music was made with battered instruments and malfunctioning equipment.

The whole thing of, you smack a big deep drum on the downbeat, you smack a little drum on the backbeat AND it has little metal wires and that's important, abd meanwhile you wail on big pieces of metal now and then except two smaller pieces of metal that choke each other all the time and THAT WHAT YOU DO, AMEN is really pretty weird. I mean, you can't invent that, it has to evolve. And then no one questions it. I don't; if I try to do anything different it just doesn't sound right. It does give me respect for the reggae guys that just decided, "nah mon, I ain't going to do that! I'll hit the stuff but I'll hit it all backwards".
