ITS LOUD, TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN

    Here we go again...

This polarised opinion last time, ala Marmite.

Im pretty much 'done' with this track now so if it makes the grade for the AS compilation, so be it. If not ill slink off into the darkness with my head hanging haha!

Either way Im finished with this effer.

Powers that be, let me know if you want me to upload the .wav

    Thanks for listening.

Since HK is gone things will change. Xsze Catalyst and Me are just talking about how this whole thing will go on. The album will be released, but we have to reorganize it.

Can you be more specific? Link to a thread where all this is being discussed?

Sorry I cant be more specific. We discuss everything right now, so please be patient. As I said, there will be a album, wouldnt be fait for everybody who made a track if the project would just die, only because HK left. But HK left a "whole", and we have to think about how we shoudl fill it... understand?

If you want to help contact me or Xsze, otherwise just wait a bit and we will take care of things.

@Paus I think think you need to reduce the loudness, I've just been enjoying watching a movie, just logged in and played your track and the fecking windows broke, seriously its too loud, nice track, but definitely needs backing off :mates:

Duly noted, but I gotta say Im happy its 'too loud' yet the waveform doesnt look like a gigantic wang

sorry about the windows, send the bill to 123 fakestreet, madeupsville

I better add a disclaimer cos it starts loud and has often caught me offguard too.

    Hey Paus.
I still basically like this track, though I would've made some other choices regarding arrangement as I babbled about before :)
But I'm also still getting that 'crushed' sound in my monitors… maybe it is simply like SirSilly says that the loudness needs to be reduced a bit.
What does it sound like on your own system if you take the whole track down a notch? Does it really take away any of the feeling and that good dirtyness (is that a word?)?
If you still have the nasty edge without pushing the volume to the absolute max that will probly be a better version to use when all the tracks are to be put together.

thisistheend: I dont know how to explain it tbh but here goes...
Theres a compressor on the master with zero compression, but the input is cranked. Thats where the dirtiness comes from. I messed about with a cloned project without the input gain and it lost its mojo entirely.

Ive a limiter on the master after this but the values arent excessive one bit, not even close to clipping when I exported it.

Ive listened to it so much now that I cant approach it with a fresh perspective I guess.

Is the problem just the volume? I exported it a few db below zero so there was room to play with for whoever would be compiling the album...?

I dunno, help me to help myself

    Paus,

Well I guess if you're not pushing stuff to the clipping point, this is the sound that you want.
The thing that I'm feeling is not really the volume but rather the character of the sound. If I compare this version to your first draft I still get the same sense of crushed distortion that I and HK had then.
It's friggin hard to explain this clearly when we can't listen together on equal systems and I'm not using my own language, but what I hear is not just the typical distortion I'd expect from a few sounds in the mix that were designed that way. It's more like the crushed dist you get on a full track when you push the volume just a bit too far on a pair of weak speakers.

But again, if you're not using any overkill with compressors and limiters then you must have tweaked the bass and as it seems to me parts of the beat to get this effect. So if it sounds good to you I'm not sure you should change it anymore, though I think there could be some things done to take away that 'overall crush'.
Maybe take down just the dirtiest sounds a notch or separate them from each other, or move everything else in the mix away from those sounds so they don't have the same impact on the whole spectrum.

I compared this track to a similar one that you mentioned before, 'Flux', and that doesn't give me the same sense of being crushed, but has both clarity and dirtyness, even when I crank it up. Might be something different in the process there that you could apply?

Hope any of this rambling make some kinda sense :dunno:

I understand you perfectly now, specifically your comparison to 'Flux'. Im sure the issue is that ive input gain hot on the master of this track. Flux was isolating the dirty elements from the clean, the master wasnt running too hot.

    Code:
It's more like the crushed dist you get on a full track when you push the volume just a bit too far on a pair of weak speakers.
This was the kinda vibe I was going for haha, just plain nasty. I did take the lazy route to achieve it though. I dont like to go on about these things too much though because I start to feel like a pretentious azzhole!

To be honest Im happy with it just because its something for me and my friends to down some whiskeys to before hitting the club

What youve said makes plenty sense and Ill take note for my future works, burnt out from this track now though, time to move on. Thanks very much for your input.
