Hey guys I'm looking for a good Caribbean steel drum type library or synth preset. Figured there would be a few for konktakt but couldn't find anything. I found a steel drum preset in FM8 but it sounds kind of uh not great. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place. Any suggestions? Thanks.

 

I think I saw one in a UVI Falcon Lib if I remember right but didn't need it ... like "World Percussion" or something.

Pianoteq also got some decent ones.

 

They have been putting this sound as a preset/stock drum hit into digital synths for as long as they could store them! They all seem to have some bad one.
FM8 is where I would think to look also, because it is very much like a Bell sound. There is a really good FM one in the Virus ROM patches, irc Bank B.
I'd personally rather use samples, but they are going to be part of some percussion kit, and not the entire thing. There have to be a million steel pan recordings, HQ might be more difficult to track down. I would prefer a human player to be sampled, like any real drummer. but of course, they are pitched so even more so, than more usual drums.

this one is rather simple and seemed to do ok

this way you have some steel drums and not some stole drums. but I should probably not leave on free hosting for long.

As already said above by @Kwissbeats , Pianoteq is a good choice, but also the Kontakt Factory Library has it.

Yes, there is a UVI lib called "World Suite", you'll find it on Siter site. In there it is under "By type --> Bell, Metlal and Gong -->Steel Drums --> Steel Drums 1+2"

That is a handpan. different instrument. it's inverted, different resonance. cool sounds anyway

 

My go-to is still Noiiz's free 'Steel Pans' library for their Noiiz player, which despite the name is a set of London/Carribean-Diaspora Steel Drums, not hand pans, and since Noiiz have rebooted their purpose 3 or 4 times since I downloaded them, neither the drums nor the player are still available.
