There actually WAS a point in the mid 00's where you could crack them or port them over from a friends system with some byzantine method I have long long since forgot....

i really miss my la-2a collection and the lex224 since i sold my uad. not so much the api vision strip though. also the neve 1073 sounds really hot. but $20 per month for like 9 plugins...not really a good deal, imo. but hey its uad. they never had any kind of good deals :D

maybe when they add more plugins and stay with the price, it might be worth a shot.
i like more my PA Subscription bundle, where i at least own a part of the plugins year by year.

    From UAD Spark Site FAQ:
I already own some of the UAD plug‑ins available in this subscription. Do I get access to the native version?

Yes. You get the native version of the plug-in for free. Download UA Connect to get started.

I own a fair amount of these Plugs (also some from the subscription), but there are none showing up.....wtf...
Probably need to buy again :bleh:

Thanks man. In the past 15 years a lot has improved in the CPU computing power, so i guess those cards are no longer needed in that sense.

Also we have some many companies now offering replicas of their hardware or other just creating virutal recreations so that UAD might falls short if they dont come out of the hiding now? We can only speculate and maybe if every goes all after the plan, we can maybe try them on both Mac and Win soonish.

But it makes stuff offordable in the long time, maybe they have like roland has a way to buy them permanent?

Btw hi Sisy, long time no see ...

Why didn't they open up the use of the LUNA DAW without having a UA Interface as long as you have a subscription?

Long time no see my friend as well! You know how the last year or two have been for all of us.... sigh..

But yeah, it's been awhile, and I'm not up to date on all subscription plans or how they have changed... there are some that are fair, like kinda the "rent to own" Xfer Serum model, and Roland allows you to retain one or two a year last I checked, but companies like Avid can eat it in my opinion, as what they do isn't right.

I'm a guy who works on a lot of different projects, and sometimes will go months without working at all, and I will have certain plugs I will lean on for a bit, then move on.... but if I had to login and "re-subscribe" every time I wanted to use my Soundtoys plugs ins or whatnot, I'd be pretty pissed. And more importantly (to me at least, as I have hundred if not thousands of legacy songs/projects), these services go away, and you don't have them anymore in five years as they are out of business and you are just straight up fucked.

Hell, I keep clones of my drives from different OS's over time, and so should I need a piece of work from say 2006 or 2012, I can boot from those system drives and bounce. 32bit and all. Can't do that with the way these subscription services work unless you want to spend half your life bouncing everything as audio etc...

But again, always good to see you Artic. :)

The subscription is only part of it. If that doesn't work for you, the point is, you will be able to buy UAD plugins, and use them natively, completely separate from the subscription product. That's a good deal, and if you already own UAD plugins that have been ported to UADx, you get licenses for the native versions for free. That's a good way to go native, imo, and UA have done a good job here.

yeah, we gotta give credit for that... but i'm worried about the layer used for it, cause they are not rewritten plugins. let's hope it doesn't turn them into acustica audio in terms of cpu usage ahahahah

Yeah, that is more fair absolutely. I haven't even looked at their fine print, but I have been screwed by them before with different platforms and whatnot... and that is (from what I understand now, again, it's been a minute) far better then what they are doing with Protools etc...

I get your greater point on that, but let's get real, it's not like those Sharc chips are anything to write home about. Outdated tech that they are getting on the cheap, and probably the only reason they are going native is either their supply of those dried up or the supply chain shortages.

I don't want Nebula Acoustic cpu crush either, but I'd imagine even if they have to do some pruning, meh... they will be ok, as their chips are to my understanding, underpowered crap that are essentially simply utilized to keep you in their eco-system with their "dongle".

i meant it cause of the emulation process. i know it is old tech, but the code is the hard part there.

if they manage to keep usage low, they can get a great deal from going native in my opinion

You can't tell me that somewhere at the discussion table when they planned on bringing these plugs to native, someone definitely had to say "But what about R2R"???

I haven't done any recent shootouts myself, but I don't think that it is the case. Especially as evidenced by plugs that run native AND UAD. Native smokes them. UAD chips actually put more strain on the system then not having the damn chips at all in a lot of circumstances I have read.

I know people like their stuff, and sure, but that is the talent of the coders/programmers more then it is the hardware.

And the hardware is unnecessary for most or all concerned purposes at this point. It's not 2012/2014 anymore.

(edit add: this thread, and the comment by Undertow is pretty right on, and I know he knows what is talking about...)
