Numbers really don't matter. The same number(attack time) with linear attack curve will sound different than same number but with log attack curve and different than same number but with exp attack curve. When you make music you use your ears. When you don't make music, you use plugin doctor to tell you what to hear. You think you have a good logic and good argument here in this thread but man, you're on the wrong side of the river and you'll need to build a bridge (aka make a lot of music) to cross it.

No, I think it is valid to look at pure numbers as a way of knowing where you are starting and going once you are making music. Especially when it comes to assuming a 'clean' start.

It is like seeing where you are starting from a mountaintop on this side of the river, in relation to the landscape over there.
Once you are over there you might know when you reach good destinations, (your ears) but you may not know how to get to them if you don't know where you are to start (not sure what is causing certain problems).

May I hijack this thread, and ask u guys on what kind of material you intuitively grab Pro-c?
Could the fact that it is this clean be a disadvantage?

It is a disadvantage if you want to have this really big fat compression type (snare for example).
But then I'd rather use some really big saturation instead of compression anyways (waveshaper). In my opinion, the only effect of compression used on most material is effectively to raise saturation level, because compression by itself (clean), even if very hard driven, does not really make something bigger or fatter. This only works in combination with saturation.

But one can argue about this thesis.
