… so we thought the best way for people to get access to great musical instruments would be through VSTs.
With our upcoming free DAW, we will also be including some free VST’s as well as other plug ins where we’ll charge a small amount.
For this purpose, we assembled some of the world’s best VST developers and together with our highly experienced Danish TC Electronic team, they’re now developing truly outstanding VST’s. Best of all, they’ll seamlessly integrate with our hardware synthesizers.
Once our DAW is ready, we’ll roll out the whole package. Offering these tools for free, is our contribution to empowering musicians around the world and especially getting kids into the world of music synthesis.
We’d like to invite all VST developers around the world to join us build the most amazing free DAW and get your plug-ins integrated.
Help us contribute to the empowerment of musicians and the musical education of kids.
Contact us at [email protected] and we’ll put you in touch with our developers from TC Electronic.

I wonder how good ol' Uli will exploit or rip-off someone with a FREE daw? I'm sure he'll find a way!

This is called customer loyalty, and it is also worthwhile to market user data.

What Uli should do is stop using verbs in the future tense:
    We will create ...
    We will clone ...
    We will deliver ...

    so pathetic
He is now so desperate that he no longer publish (fake) release dates anymore
    Look at that:

    Yes we can !

    Childhood and youth

Behringer's father was a church organist and nuclear physicist, his mother a pianist and interpreter, his uncle a professor of composition at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and his aunt a classical singer and pianist. He learned the piano at the age of four. When he was five, his father built his own pipe organ with over 1000 pipes and integrated it into the family home. He had bought the organ in 1965 from a church demolition and was the first to build an electronically controlled pipe organ. At that time, all organs were pneumatically or mechanically controlled, and the manual couplings were mechanical.

Behringer was allowed to help his father build this organ and learned a lot in the areas of craftsmanship and electronics. At 16, Behringer built his first synthesiser - the UB1. In 1978, he built his first digital reverb unit.

It can be the good competition or it can be the worst new DAW ever. But we do not have any info and speculation without info is not a good mindset. "It is going to be bad just because it is free" - Dumb opinion.

Personally, I do not care as we have many great DAWs. Reaper, Bitwig, Studio One.. great choices out there already.

Listen, I have all the patience it takes with Uli, considering I have waited 4 years for an RD-9 (and more Behringer gear stuck in preorder). I just go crazy when he, or his marketing department, deceives me.
Think of all the fake release dates he has given us, many of his products have all been "coming soon" for years ...

    Now Uli says:
Help us contribute to the empowerment ... [blablablah]. Contact us at [email protected]

Have you ever tried going to Musictribe? it is completely clogged: superslow and often unresponsive. If they can't even produce a working website, I can't imagine what their daw might be.

    Note:
It is completely useless to open a ticket to Musictribe customer support: no one will answer

The point of this rant is that if Uli is looking for my smile he has to to shout up his braggart mouth and be more consistent with the quality of his products, release dates and aftermarket services.

Thanks for the inside information. Behringer is so big that he's become a bit of a megalomaniac because he can't get any headwind and he's flattening the competition with cheap products made in China. In short, the man is not credible and certainly not trustworthy. He mercilessly exploits his market power and the saliva lickers like the blogs are relatively uncritical of him.

I agree. I believe the bad "free" software includes Propellerhead ReBirth, Roland Zenbeats, Pro Tools Prime, Apple Garageband, PreSonus Studio One Prime, BandLab Cakewalk, IK Multimedia Amplitube 5 Custom Shop, Audacity, Vember Audio's Surge (or whoever makes it now), TDR Nova, Klanghelm DC1A, Native Instruments Komplete Start, Togu Audio Line's free stuff, u-He's free stuff, Xfer Records' free stuff, notwithstanding many companies like Full Bucket Music and Dead Duck Software that have a plethora of decent free stuff.....if these are all "bad just because they're free", I'd like to see the poster of this make better free alternatives :rofl:Granted, some are slimmed down versions of paid-for software, but some are entirely standalone and free. This "bad just because it is free" mentality is a little immature and silly, no.... :dunno:

Price and Quality have been decoupled for about as long as Pitch and Time have.

From a market share pov, it would make the most sense to copy Logic.

Apple's lawyers make it a not so sensible choice in terms of getting sued, although Uli might know that apple has 0 standing on LAF lawsuits in germany.

It would make sense for other programmers to have done this, sometime between Apple's acquisition of eMagic and today.

No matter what they make, it will be like the rest of their software.

Arguably all but Bitwig and Studio One are older than the emagic purchase, and their developers are locked into 'keeping our look and feel as it is', and since Bitwig and Studio One were both 'breakaway groups of developers of the DAWs they're each similar to', those two are going to keep trying to get back to the original goal that they feel that Ableton and Cubase have veered from, respectively.

But yes, I'm surprised there hasn't been a full on attempt to copy Logic in the last 20 years, especially in the last 10 since it's gained such a cult following.

This surprises me too, especially due to Logic's Apple-only limitation. I would have thought someone would have made a Windows-friendly version of something based closely on Logic Pro by now. Maybe this just shows that building a worthwhile DAW is much harder than people may think.

it's hard to say that Logic, Digital Performer, or Protools have developed a "cult" following. They are all the same in the "used consistently in related industries".

It's like saying Solidworks has a cult following. All these Japanese Automotive companies and engineers like it for some "religious" reason.....of course not.

Maybe some people here are too young, but I remember stories of companies of guys like us. Making little devices. And making one wrong move, stealing IP from other manufacturers; and being buried by lawsuits that companies who made cool instruments, who never recovered from.
They were not Apple. That is the absolute last company on this planet I would like to hear from their legal dept. When someone does, they ask where to unload the Truck. "I have 8." Boxes? No, Pallets"...and over a $200 program. (0 to them).

I think they will steal code from someone else. a loophole with eMagic passing ownership? that would be something they would do...not actually build anything themself. it's too easy to target someone who does not have the same level of representation available to them at no cost. or stick a different gui on something already owned by them. it will be slimey, either way. rest assured, investors. They will make money and no-one will misunderstand what sort of code they are running; if just not where it is from.
