For me teh oposite, I like its workflow much better than for example Logic Alchemy. The only thing I dislike is that Avenger tends to produce CPU spikes somewhen.

What do I reach for first if I'm creating a bass or a lead? Serum.
If I'm creating a pad? Sylenth or Diva or Sonic Academy Ana.

I might not end up using those, but those are what I reach for first to get that quick and dirty stand-in sound.

I haven't touched any of the other modular software since I started embracing VCV rack. I probably use that as much as Ableton now.

Yes, the only fully modular I could understand and go a little further to make some patches from scratch.

I started off using pulsar modular p900 synth which got me hooked onto modular synths .
Then I jumped down the modular rabbit hole (never ending expense lol) I got the Roland system 1m and all four efx modules which I love I still use them every day in sessions I love that I can use them with my modular and with logic at same time . Brilliant little units Roland should make a version 2. anyways next I picked up a moog mother 32 . Then I was fucked because I wanted every module that I watched videos of. A few years later I’ve filled a few cases and spent a few thousand .
I love using the modular for sound design and with the Roland efx I can do a hybrid session using fx from daw at the same time .
I love using the Waldorf blofeld aswell can make some beautiful sounding pads , strings even nasty reese bass . Another piece I use every day along with the virus c great for those evil basslines if like me that’s your thing . software wise for sound design I like serum it’s very easy to program your own patches as any synth , massive was my first synth to learn patch design back when then massive x now , phaseplant , rob papen raw , unfiltered audio lion great synth , reaktor 6 which integrates perfect with the hardware modular and these brilliant Roland modules which act as a dc soundcard for the modular so I can send signals from reaktor . Sound design for me is what keeps the music burning inside me creating new sounds / riffs ,chords , samples . It’s 50% of making great tunes the sound design . Sorry if I’ve taken it off thread i just love sound design .

I'm trying to stick only to one synth, so I can learn faster and better. ANA2 is very cool, I like it. Sometimes I still get confused over the filters... sometimes I switch to Retrologue which seems a bit more immediate

@ArticStorm may I ask you why you prefer v2 over v3?

    You mean v1 over v2 and v3?

I like the way how Osc are located on one page, you dont have to click around to much, you can see everything one time checking, the same goes for the other features, no clicking around. v2 and v3 has to much clicking when you want to create your own presets.

The GUI with Black and Red, i like also a lot. Only Minus point is maybe the tiny GUI, but Dune 1 was released long time ago and you cant even buy today anymore.

Fav Filter is the Allpass filter :mates:

    Au5 | Supersaw Killer | Serum Tutorial

Trance Supersaw Leads! A Shootout Between Vital Synth and the Old Guard! | Trance Music Production

In this video I will give a brief history of the trance Supersaw lead sound. I start with the Jupiter 8 and work up to the JP-8000 then I demonstrate these synths in modern software configuration. I will then move on to a modern Supersaw lead shoot-out between Serum, Sylenth, Omnisphere and Vital Synth. You decide which one is best! Have fun!

I like Pigments and Vital, recently I've been messing around with Lion, quite cool infinite modular synth (similar to phase plant with its modules). I also tried Thorn yesterday and I didn't hate it but it's quite meh imo.

I really got on quite well with the Softtube Modular that got released in the big wave, and there were some really nice modules that came out with it -- but it just doesn't come close to touching VCV. There are so many modules -- and so many great modules -- the Befaco stuff, the Vult stuff, the Mutable Instruments clones, the Instruo modules. And those are just the copies of stuff that exists in hardware. Some of the people releasing stuff just for VCV are doing outstanding work. Valley, Count Modula, Impromptu, Geodesics -- and it's all free.

I know there's freeware vst's out there that people use and love. I've never found any myself, but I'm sure it exists. However, generally it's inferior to the paid software. The free modules in VCV completely overshadow all of the paid modular software for my money. I'd take it over Cherry Audio or Reaktor any day of the week.

Serum, mostly because I bought it years ago and it was the first (and currently the only) synth I really learned to use.

This is why I mentioned Knifonium. It could not have less clicking around and menu diving. Everything is immediate. It is a very fun little synth.

My actual favorite to design patches on, doesn't make any sound on it's own. :)
