You actually missed mine. I think i posted two times on this topic saying that for advanced sidechain needs like ducking specific frequency regions i would use a multiband comp or a single-band with advanced sidechain features. If you check my earlier post i already said these.(So by writin' these, it meant clearly that i've got your point, or else i wouldn't be talking about the multiband or advanced single band comp.)
In my last topic i even said that VolumeShaper is the fastest for basic stuff, like basic ducking, kick&bass relation, ghost-kick sidechain effect on bass or pads without requiring a extra kicks-track(like the classic compressor method), etc.
Anyway... If Sidechain for you means only the vocal lead trick, then a comp with sidechain features is a go-to, but as far as i know, these kind of tricks are rare tasks, because on a project i use 80% VolumeShaper to emulate the sidechain effect for the basic stuff and only 20% for advanced sidechain like you mentioned.

Those have nothing at all to do with what I said and using something other than a kick or hi hat for a trigger is hardly advanced.

    I tried this - doesn't work.

There's no way to tell Alloy which is the SC audio. Other plugins have an option in Wrapper settings (cog icon, top left of any plugin -> 'processing') which allows to select SC - but Alloy doesn't.

    So......doesn't work. IMO - impossible.

    Use a different plugin.
    -------------

EDIT ---- it does work - but you must use the VST 3 version - otherwise you get no way to select AUX input to run the sidechain. Put Alloy2 VST 3 on your mixer, sidechain a kick (or whatever) to it as normal, and then go into plugin wrapper, processing, and select "AUX INPUT" (set to 1, or whatever) and remember to click the toggle next to it - switching it on!

    Voila - works.

Reaper couldn't use the SC either because of absence of VST3 support - and the SC input for Alloy uses VST3. Anyways it works just as expected.

I haven't read the entire thread but I just wanted to say this: Yes, a proper sidechain is done with a compressor of course, but I see people on youtube who automate the mixer volume control instead. If you're a purist you'd never do it that way, but damn I think you'd need very good ears to hear any difference between the 2 methods in a full mix. I always use a compressor myself, it's usually easier anyway.

I use sidechaining as little as possible because it is so overused, it's used even when it's not needed, just for the effect!

But sometimes, sidechaining is not meant just for the effect. Is used also for making space between the mix elements. For example when you want a dense layered pad to be ducked when the vocal kicks in. In a dense mix, sidechaining is a must (if you don't want to kill yourself by spending too much time writing automation or riding the volume fader)

sidechain on the newest fl studio isn't possible because it isn't cracked properly

it should work something like this, route it to a channel with the volume down (you could also right click en select route to this track.)

then insert a vst3 (3!) to that channel en go to plugin properties->proccessing>inputs en put the sidechain/aux channel on 1,2,3 etc.

+1 for GB. If you are native to FL, no need to jump out the box for side chaining. Just use Gross Beat. Strap Gross Beat to the channel/bus you intend to chain and click the sidechain button. Ofcourse you are going to have to adjust the parameters but it is a very convenient tool for FL users. Chaining is ment to be a simple task so there is no need to headbut bricks over the best method. To each it's own. GB works best for me when i use FL. On the other hand...I use Fab C when im on Cubase or Studio one.

    Sincerely,

A few months ago I read the following tutorial on sidechain compression, does a pretty good job of guiding you through it.

    http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/a-cleaner-way-to-sidechain-in-fl-studio--audio-16769

I like this method a lot more than stuff like gross beat, because you can get really precise with it.

I just want to thank OP and all contributors for this fantastic thread. I've gotten so many great ideas for different SC types and for what may be seen as 'no brainer' ideas for SC applications. Adding all these tools will make future productions easier!
