EDIT/UPDATE: For those who say why not keep other backups, I did, but most was not necessary as my old ones sucked, I only kept my newer ones, but every time I made new ones, I felt like my old new ones (oxymoron) sucked. I just kept uploading to Google Drive and Bitcasa. Then I felt like I didn't need two online backups, and since, at the time, Bitcasa did have more free space than Google Drive and was cheaper if I ever wanted to buy more storage, I only kept Bitcasa. I'm sure with data recovery I could get my old stuff back with my broken hard drive but not worth paying for. I'm going to try to make the "modern thing" (dubstep) as someone in my high school and on my bus makes 1000's doing so (not saying or even thinking that will happen to me or anytime soon but), his "screen name" is omnipony, he is on soundcloud. I do have programs for dubstep such as sylenth1 and massive, but never took much time learning it. I know it's hard mastering edm, but I'll give it a go. Thanks to everyone, have a nice day.

    Prepare for some language

Let me start with I AM FUCKING PISSED OFF, EVERY FUCKING SONG I'VE EVER MADE GOT DELETED. 3 YEARS OF FUCKING MUSIC I BACKED UP TO BITCASA AND HALF OF IT WAS CORRUPTED AND UNDOWNLOADABLE/PLAYABLE. I AM FUCKING PISSED... I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO FUCKING SAY BUT NEVER FUCKING USE BITCASA TO BACKUP ANY OF YOUR SHIT I BACKED IT UP ABOUT 5 OR 6 MONTHS AGO AND SAID AFTER A WHILE FINISHED UPLOADING AND NOW THAT I ACTUALLY NEEDED THE BACKUP 6 MONTHS LATER IT'S NOT FUCKING USABLE. FUCKING SHIT.

I'm sorry but this is just about the worst thing ever happened to me in the digital world and now that everything is gone I don't think I'll make fucking music again, there's no point anymore... FUCK.

(ps, I had no idea what section to put this in nor did I want to waste any time looking, you've been wonderful audioSEX, but now I say goodbye :(.)

That's truly awful, man. Not much to say except I feel for you.

This is the reason why some guys say that unless you have at least 3 copies of your data stored in separate places you don't really have a backup. I do this now with my most important stuff since I had a similar experience some years ago, though I didn't lose everything. I understand that this must feel devastating, but I do believe we can learn and grow from anything.
Take some time off, drink some beer, and maybe when the shock and disappointment of this fades a bit you can revive your positive feelings about making music

mmmmm. cloud storage. Its such a weird thing. If you had real hard drives with the data you could atleast try to recover some of it or have a company work with recovering data off the drive platters. As you have nothing physical im not too sure of the next step. Maybe there is a program to see EXACTLY what is corrupted.

Must be those silly bitcasa guys are using some Western Digital or OCZ hard drives.

I think we will hear many more stories of this sort of thing happening, with businesses losing valuable information because they thought cloud storage was the latest thang and thinking it was cheaper to store all their confidential info off-site.

Have a rage, have a cry, have a beer, then make music, you have plenty of emotion at the moment to make some, so use it :mates:

Hmm, I also can understand your frustration...But nevertheless I dont understand the way you handle your music. I mean..how many tracks or projects did you do within the last 3 years? I can understand, you backuped them somewhere even I dont understand why you choose an cloud service...But OK. But what the hell did you do after backup? You deleted them from your computer due for harddisk space? Why dont just keep them at your computer? How many GB is an average project folder? When I make music and use a lot of samples and loops I never have any project bigger than 1GB. So even you made 300 tracks within the last 3 years all together should fit on an old small harddisk you can purchase for less than 50 Euro. I dont want to blame you...but when your music is so important for you I cant really understand the way you act when saving it for further times.

I feel for you, bro. As these stories happen so often nowadays, I guess my digital paranoia is not unjustified. I don't believe in cloud storage. I buy drives, fill them, and then buy some more. And I buy only small drives, 500Gb. If a large, tera size drive fails, getting it all back is a long and painful process.

    What the hell kyle379, you're only 16??
Then I wanna add this: You are definitely gonna get over this and make a lot more music.
Trust me kiddo, there is nothing that you can't bounce back from or overcome when you're young.
All you need to understand is that patience is a virtue and life is long (if you're lucky, and don't live too much by a crazy schedule like the AudioSex staff :bleh: ).

Time is on your side, you will be fine. Now go eat your vegetables and don't stay up too late :mates:

thank you for sharing kyle379, i actually had Bitcasa client when they were in beta, but i removed it after a while because i couldn't understood how it really works.

as i usually say in these situations - you've lost data, but gained experience which you cannot gain any other way unfortunately

welcome to my topic about Online Storage Services

So you are basically saying you made music for three years, but never gave away tracks to your friends, never uploaded tracks to Soundcoud or Youtube, never burned at least one backup disc, just backing up to a shady backup cloud service?

Sorry, but in this case blame no one but yourself.

You`re 16 Bro! I`d swap places with ya in a flash! *yes*

Trust me, as hard as this seems right now, you just have to put it down to experience, brush yourself off and remount the old keyboard. If you truly feel so bad towards producing right now, lay some dust covers over your kit and take a 6 month break from writing. Just start LISTENING to music instead. ALL types, kinds and genres. This could be the best thing that EVER could have happened to your musical journey, hard as that sounds right now.

Oh yeah, and girls. Get girls. Lots of girls. Don`t waste another minute second doubting yourself. Just go get girls. LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of girls.

And don`t ever forget to respect `em while you with `em!

To be quite honest I've never had a girlfriend, at high school they always bug me because they think I'm cute or whatever, but I'm not into what they're into, all these parties and stupid pop music, whose singers don't deserve any credit as everything is autotuned and they don't do no crap to my knowledge, which is why I just stay in my room all day... whoopdeedoo. It used to be the guys would bug the girls, now it's the girls who bug the guys, every year when freshmen comes in I go crazy to see how different and fast technology is changing everybody. It's crazy. I also live with strict step-dad side of family and super religious mother's side of family, so I don't want to even bother with girls unless they're actually nice and don't just care about if one is "cute" or not.

There, there, my friend… Experience isn't worthless. Even when it comes from sth negative it can be used to create the opposite.
So I'd say that there's a little bit of good to be found sometimes even in those really wicked activities :mates:

And Kyle, girls have always been like that. They just wanna, they just wannaaa :)

    Xsze,

Yeah, but still, you've learned stuff from your experiences, and without this knowledge you wouldn't be able to give this advice.
Your words could be worth sth to others like our friend Kyle here, meaning that the experience doesn't have to be worthless even if you think that the activity was.
Everybody makes some mistakes and bad choices, without that you haven't really lived.
It's just my personal opinion that everything has some kinda value, even bad stuff. I mean, if we didn't have sth bad we wouldn't have anything good either.
Not to mention that what's bad for one person can be good for another… and so on and so forth...

Loving the 80's vibe we got going on today :dancing:
