It's 'sour' cream. It's already gone bad.

Aight but what's this all about:

According to the USDA, sour cream (opened or unopened) is good for up to three weeks after the sell-by date, as long as it's been stored in the refrigerator. This rule of thumb is backed up by the Food Marketing Institute in their consumer guide to food quality and safe handling, "The Food Keeper." They give a seven to 21-day window for using sour cream, assuming it's been refrigerated at 40 F.

    up to 3 weeks?? What???

This, expiration dates usually mean it's not gonna taste as it "should", doesn't necessarily mean it's going to do you any bad, that part is a bit hit or miss.

But an entire year though...Maybe it was done with more durable ingredients? Happens with mayo (commercial ones can last for months, while homemade just lasts for a few days).

Maybe you've left it so long it's turned into something else. Maybe it's the cure for cancer :woot:.

Never, ever take a risk with something that might poison you - ask a friend to try it.

Dude, I just watched a video of found ice age animals discovered perfectly preserved in the permafrost of Russia and Alaska. Scientists from one group made a stew from the shoulder of a bison found and thawed out after about 26,000 years being buried in the mud.

Don't worry about your sour creme, if you're not dead yet and you are reading this and don't look like the bison below, I'd say you're good to go.

Judging by the smile on his face, it looks like he was in the middle of servicing a female bison when he snuffed it.

When sourcream goes bad it gets mouldy. If it's not, and it doesn't taste funny, it's probably okay to eat! Are you sure that you are reading the best before date correctly, btw?

I've been prepping for a couple of years and recently started refreshing my 'stash'. So I've been eating peas amongst other things from a glass yar that expired in 2015. There is no difference in taste, didin't get sick and as far as I'm concerned I'm still mentally stable.
Sour cream and any other product can last a long time as long as no fresh oxygen is available, temperatures are stable, kept in the dark.
But smell it, look at the structure, and color before throwing it away since it might still be good to eat.
It's all part of the cycle that wants us to spend as much money as possible called consumerism.

You think that's old? I'm still using this one from 2020, this shit lasts forever!

Edit: Actually thinking about it I have been pretty sick recently. I thought it was just Covid, hmm.
