The other night I was browsing around Aliexpress and came across this...

It is a Shure SM7B...but is it though?

It is £147 yet SM7B's retail for (On GAK) for £331

In the past I have purchased a 'SM75' just out of curiosity which was £20, but I knew that was a fake...but this one...I am not so sure about.

There are two possibilities...one is that it is excess stock from the warehouse and they are wanting to get rid of them fast...or two is that it is indeed fake.

What are you thoughts on this one?

I am on the fence about this so debating whether to purchase one to investigate and come to my own conclusion

Upon translating one of the reviews, this is what is revealed:

"The capsule came badly positioned and the paint was scratched. About the sound I still don't know how to evaluate because I don't have the original to compare! But the good thing is that the seller does not deceive anyone. He even reveals before the sale that the product is a copy! Anyone who wants to know the real value of the real item just enter the official shure website.

SM7B is boring, ancient and overrated,
if I wanted a podcast mic (which I doubt), I'd either pick Earthworks Icon Pro or sE Electronics DynaCaster

 

I have SE Electronics 2200A II, but the mere fact that there is a SM7B for that price just makes me so curious.

 

I didn't quite understand you that way, can't you order from somewhere else in your country ? Do you want to buy a Shure SM7B ?

 

I have a U87 copy from Warm Audio which I love. Sounded pretty similar in YouTube demos before I bought it. They do some great cut price mics. Seems to be other great competition as well in copies, so it seems crazy to buy a cheap version of a low quality mic when you can get a high quality, cut price version of a brilliant mic.

 

My aim is to see if this is a fake or genuine

Look at the prices, mineswert was 345 EUR and if that someone sells for 266 EUR it is either stolen or a product counterfeit etc.
Leave the fingers of it.

Honestly, you better don't buy this replica mic at Ali Express's if you want the real sound.
It's no original, nobody knows about the quality of the capsule and so forth.
You'll be disappointed, I'm very shure. ...
These Chinese copies often appear well-made and in fact they are not bad, most time. They may be fine for just the look, it looks strikingly identical. But despite it's a significant difference in sound, you'll most likely hear it. Many people rate these kind of products 5 stars because they do not have a comparison, they just want the look of this mic and most of them wouldn't hear a difference anyway. And what's worth trying it out? If you have money to spend well, save another 150€ and go for an original one if you really dig it. Otherwise you better think of alternative mics like they ones mentioned above or whatever may be after your fancy.

 

shure is producing in Mexico
So probably it is the same "trick" than China : factory produce MORE on the sideway ... and sell with less margin.

Problem : there is no control on production ... so you don't know witch capsule and such is put inside.

Looking at the image on the advert, it says on the microphone 'Made in Mexico'...I wonder what the policies are on Aliexpress are in regards to counterfeits and refunds...

 

Ordered a jog wheel for my MPC, from these guys. Didn't receive it. Opened a dispute, got no response and to my knowledge no refund. Delivery date was 3 months after my order. Got a shipping confirmation a few days later and that's about it. Customer support was non existent in my case. Not sure how other users have got on, but I would think twice about purchasing anything of great value from this site.

Just a chinese copy that use the same model name.
Like instead of a Ferrari Testarossa you would get a Flexari Testarossa, made from plastic.

 

FFS, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.
That doesn't mean there aren't exceptions to this rule, but I don't think they're found on Aliexpress.
Contrary to other opinions here I think it's probably a legit Shure, just one that didn't pass their quality control that was sneaked out.
I could be wrong, but is it worth buying? Either way, probably not.

 

I messaged the seller, asking him if this was a genuine Shure, or just a copy...

Response:

"hi this is high quality copy shure with shure logo"

 

OK, happy to admit I was wrong thinking it might be legit but defective, but my conclusion stands.
