My laptop with win 10 is not connecting to any network.
Strange things are:
- It sees the different wifi networks around
- Problem is the same with lan
- but when I do a cmd ipconfig/all the adapters are not seen.


I tried a lot of solutions, like uninstalling the adapters, reinstalling them. Check drivers and their configurations. Take off firewall completely. start in safe mode with network, etc..

Nothing worked.

Any idea please? I need to be connected to work...

Man that sounds hard. Something very weird is going on.
This is a shot in the dark but just in case you could check your BIOS or even re-flash it

Also you could try to boot from some Live USB that includes network drivers, like WinPe Sergei Strelec.

 

sorry, im not into win 10, but in former win versions youre able to disable the whole tcp-ip networking (for eg old novell networks). maybe something along that line?

 

Call your provider to see if there is a problem in your area.

 

It should still connect to the LAN/Wifi. It just would not be able to access the internet if the issue was with the provider.

I would definitely try a Linux distro on a live USB flash drive like Xupito suggested. It would rule out everything but BIOS and the actual NIC (which is most likely integrated into the motherboard)

As far as all your adapters not showing in IPCONFIG, that is strange, but I'd only be worried about the ones you actually use for a connection, normally (so, for example, would ignore virtual NICs)

Check in the old network connections panel applet to see if they show there (and aren't DISABLED or anything):
C:\Windows\System32\ncpa.cpl

And just to be clear, your actual adapter that's wired in to your modem/router is not getting an IP address at all (other than "169.254.x.x", which is invalid)? Just trying to determine here if you have a valid external/WAN IP address, or a LAN IP (if on router, such as 192.168.x.x.) but can't reach anything, or if this PC isn't connecting whatsoever (169.254.x.x), or seemingly worse yet, your adapter isn't even showing in the NCPA. It narrows down where to troubleshoot.

Lastly (for now), I assume you've rebooted your router/modem already, but will say it anyways. Even though you may or may not have other devices working through it, rebooting can fix this sort of problem (if it's just a simple problem of one PC not being able to connect to it).

 

BTW, I way prefer the NCPA for most network troubleshooting... even to the command prompt (although that is sometimes required). If you find your adapter in there, check Properties for what protocols are available.. also open up the ones for IPV4/6 and ensure there isn't some sort of overriding of DNS and/or IPs in there.

And as stupid as it sounds, the "Diagnose" button actually does help sometimes too, so you could try that.

A screenshot of the first screen in Network Connections (i.e. when you run ncpa.cpl) might be helpful too

 

How did this happen ? suddenly , while you were online or when restarting ? any updates done?

 

I seem to recall seeing this problem before.
Goto Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Network Adapters --> Post a list of the Adapters you see.
Now go back to Control Panel, --> Networks and Sharing Centre --> Change Adapter Settings. You SHOULD see your wired and wireless adapters. One probably called Ethernet - that will be your wired Right click on it and select properties from the drop down.
In the properties window, make sure the check boxes for Client for Microsoft Windows is selected.
Make sure Internet Protocal version 4 is checked.
Click on that and select properties. What have you got there?
Make sure your Default Gateway is correct and you have DNS Servers listed that you got when you set it up for your service provider.
One of the above stops will show the problem.
If not post the results of each step above.
I dont use wireless but lets concentrate on the WIRED first. One at a time.

 

I know this will not remedy your current situation but when you are eventually solved and working, a regular backup of your system to an external HD is the way forward. We use AOMEI Backupper Standard (free). When your OS just fcks up little things this will always bring back a working system... unless there is a hardware fault.

 

That's important!

Before delving into W10, I would try to connect a network outside your installed OS, through a live boot Linux or portable Windows (e.g. Linux Knoppix or Strelec W10), just to make sure it's not an hardware issue, if you can connect, that means you have some problem in your installed Windows.

The easiest way to do it: download Ventoy, prepare the usb key and just copy whatever live ISO file you want.

Thank all for your answers. All are good answers.
My network is working perfectly as I can connect to the internet from several other devices. Another laptop, a tablet etc...that how I'm writing here right now.

I've done all that you ve describe and that's why I am asking for help, as I cannot find a solution doing these operations.

The problem begun after a normal shutdown yesterday, and this morning the computer had this problem.
The most recent apps installed and uninstalled were ZoneAlarm free ( which is a good suspect for this problem) and gig preformer 4 by MORiA.
Both uninstalled.

Time is running, and unfortunately I'll have to reinstall Windows...

No system restore point that you can use?

Also, before doing a reinstall, might want to have a quick look again in device manager, network section and ensure show hidden devices is ENABLED. I know you looked there already, just not sure you enabled hidden.

A reinstall of Windows will almost certainly fix things, but it sucks when you have to go completely nuclear to fix something. And yes, given the timing and how firewalls of course work, it is highly likely was Zone Alarm that botched things for you. Best of luck to you.

I hear you, I'm pretty shitty at remembering to create them. Now that we're talking about it.. I think I'll go set one now!

 

Before starting a reinstall or anything drastic, See if you have or can find the ZoneAlarm installer that closely matches the version you last had installed. (look in event log if not sure). Run uninstall if offered . Make sure to reboot regardless if it asks you too or not.
If there is no uninstall, see if they have a 'cleaner' they make for WIN10. Had ones for older versions I had.
ZA is notorious for not cleanly uninstalling, at least when I used it a few years back.

reset your router according to your provider's instructions (do not switch off and on) RESET! ... sometimes the software gets an update from the router and there are problems like this ... happened to me myself
