I have been dying to understand the techniques the Brazilian duo Felguk uses in their production. I understand that there is alot of modulation but what are the modulating and how are they routing it.

A great song to listen to would be "I begin to wonder"

I would appreciate any feedback, They seem to have the same dynamic effect, modulation and automation used on every sound to give it huge urgency. The sounds themselves are not that quite hard to build they are simple. But it is what they do with them that I am looking for. The technique.

    Any ideas?

They have a huge sense of urgency. Every sound seems to have modulation on pitch, filter cutoff and proper use of maybe Portamento.
I am looking to recreate the synth programming everything from the organs to the bass and leads. Maybe it would be helpful to understand what synths they use. I have searched for information on their programming techniques for years. I have tried mapping modulation to just about everything, but these guys are experts one of them is a full time engineer and producer before they started Felguk.

Every sound seems to "sweep in". I feel like I am right there with my production and sound design but I am not getting the effect I am looking for in my synth programming.

Any ideas would be helpfull, I do appreciate all feedback, LFO modulation on the Cutoff is easy, are their certain side chaining techniques that I should consider other than using the typical control off kick and snare.

Another question is that most of their songs are in the same key or scale any ideas as to what they maybe?
This is for educational purposes only, I am a producer as well but I am trying to up my game and these guys are very very innovative.

Ok so to be as specific as possible, I am looking to recreate the bass/lead program using Sylenth or Massive, I hear the modulation on the cutoff. Now this is a mid style bass, I am wondering if they are using 1 synth program for the main bass/lead at mono with cutoff modulation and pitch bending and a little glide. Then I am noticing that they are using the same synth but duplicating the patch and adjusting the polyphony for they can make simple chords out of it at the end of the bars.

Am I over thinking this? Anyone recommend a certain synth for this? I have the majority of them, I use both Ableton and Logic.
Thank you all, this would be a major accomplishment for me if I where to have a tutorial or even a written explanation of how to setup a synth to do this operation.

    Thank you

I will try to help in this way:

    1) song must be chopped into bars from the begining to the end
    2) every bar must be analised or the only bar with certain sound of interest

the best way to do that is get the actual BPM of song, then put into DAW song, set tempo and then CUT into bars and make regions...

Put the loop on specific bar or whatever and listen...

This song is not so complicated, but has a lot of transitions and there is a lot of reversed samples in the main beat... but hey... it's complicated ! :)

If you seek for the one of the bass line, then listen certain bass line and analize. You must add your midi line in sequencer, with just nearest bass sound, put exact midi bass line, and play with automation of cutoffs, there is a lot of +/- lfo and +/- envelopes on cutoff, sometimes is normal, sometimes is reversed, negative envelope...

I do it all the time, put loop on specific bar and loop it to forever :)

Sometimes is very hard to reveal sound on mastered final song just because is playing all together, and sometimes is not... But that's learning.

If you knew every trick, you will be "Felguk" :)

yeah I guess it is tough to get in touch with some people when you are a nobody to them.
But I guess I could try, most of their accounts are fan pages and what not, haven't had any luck tracking them down personally.
I guess I could contact Bigfish or Bugeyed. Anyone into Electro House that has a contact would be greatly appreciated.
I am a total geek when it comes to music so maybe you are right.

    Thanks.

It depends what kind of people is! There is well payed musicinas who are busy... and the one like us here! we're not payed :)

From the past years I'm contacted a lot of people and I only get some information from "Chronos" and "Pete Namlook", from others I'm get only thanked mail and description like "I will never tell about my sources" :)

Look this at this way, I love Schiller music and his production, but will Christopher talk about his music and production with me ? But, hey, it's Schiller :)

If you look at ComputerMusic mag and Future Music mag, in every new release they make video with some artist... but you'll never watch the top artist, or if you see it's just studio walkthrough :)

There is a lot of videos with (per example) Moby, but all of them is worthless, just gear etc... ok, who has money it's absolute simple to has great studio :) Nothing new...

I would like to contact "Urlich Schnauss" but there is no mail over net :) Just to send me one multitrack of some older song to be analysed...

Until that, DAW, cut, move, erase, tempo and play until your/my wife not scream "You are non-stop in front of your computer, what about me !!!" :)

    Directly from Felguk -
Since I do not own a Virus TI any longer you can imagine my disapointment because as we all know the Virus has heavy processing on every preset. Unless you have never owned one. I own a Virus programming guide but without the exact preset it is impossible for me to reverse engineer it.

So anyone out there a Z3ta+ Virus user who can help out?

This is a common misconception, in all aspects of life... its usually not that difficult to get the connection that leads to the person you want to get in touch with; its usually the layers of (usually) unnecessary insulation that is in place to keep them away from the general public... You could probably contact any politician, celebrity or even layman in between 3 and 6 steps; especially with how interconnected we've all become because of the internet... I'd start with the poster of that video and see what contact info they have, and maybe make a couple of phone calls to see if either someone can tell you their techniques or get you in direct contact with the duo themselves.
