I also like Peter Gabriel very much as a person. He has depth and a healthy self-criticism. That's probably the key that even with the enormous success he's had musically, he still comes across as a very normal person.
    Thanks for the interesting video.

Interesting, is there a story behind that?

Not much of a story I'm afraid. Yeah, a friend was recording at Real World and let me know they were replacing the Oxford with an SSL and they were doing an eBay auction to sell it. Unfortunately, I can't find the Screenshots. We had worked together and I had shown him the Oxford plugins at some point.

In hindsight, it was stupid folly because it needed serious work and who is going to fix it realistically? The Oxford consoles are largely boutique and low production run units. I guess the romantic notion of owning the If and So console played heavy on my nostalgic heart (Just love both records!!) and the fact that I have never used one was pretty dumb.

It wasn't that expensive from memory like 7-8 thousand Pounds?? I was out at 3,700 thousand pounds which with the repairs, shipping and tax would have been a very hefty gamble for a largely old tech 16-bit console. (A Yamaha DM has way better specs, serviceability, and flexibility) I don't even know where it ended up

Good job you didn't, because if you thought that desk was used on So you'd be sadly mistaken - that was his SSL console in his cow shed at Ashcombe House, long before Real World.

It's not impossible some of the later remixes of the demos on the special So release were done on it, maybe you'd know more about that, but the album proper was certainly not recorded or mixed on it...

    Yeah probably maybe?
Kind of irrelevant though as most of his safety's and libraries lived there. He used that console every day (he was there) as did a multitude of artists that breezed in and out of that space.
Real World was saved from closure by that concert of artists stepping up for him to save him from bankruptcy don't forget. Part of Peter's moral attachment to real-world was to make it an open collaborative space and record and document a serious world music catalog.

Anyhoo.. I didn't really have the capital to make it happen and in hindsight, it would have been a dreadful purchase finantially.
