While installing the e-license, it says an error message:

"The specified path is too long: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Yellow Tools\E-License Manager"

How could you solve it?

 

Enabling long paths in Windows 10, version 1607 and later

Beginning with Windows 10 version 1607, MAX_PATH restrictions have been removed from common Win32 file and directory functions. However, you must opt in to the new behavior.

To enable the new long path behavior, both of the following conditions must be true:
The registry key Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\LongPathsEnabled (Type: REG_DWORD) must exist and be set to 1. The value of the key is cached by the system (per process) after the first call to an affected Win32 file or directory function (see below for the list of functions). The registry key is not reloaded during the lifetime of the process. A restart may be required for all apps in the system to recognize the value of the key, as some processes may have started before the key was set.

Wild guess only...

The path you've shown (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Yellow Tools\E-License Manager) might not be the problem.
It may be that the error message is just being unhelpful.
MAYBE the e-license manager (at the path shown) is having trouble building a license for a library that you are adding
and it is the path to that library that is too long.

Open files with file names that are too long (> 256 characters).
File path strings are limited to 256 characters in length in Windows. Nevertheless, it is possible that programs and some new Windows updates create files despite the restriction, but these can no longer be opened due to the restriction.

To solve the acute problem that a saved file can no longer be accessed, please proceed as follows.

Acute fix
The respective path can be shortened by directly integrating the actual target folder in order to avoid the length restriction.

To do this, first click on "This PC" in the file explorer and then on "Computer".

Thanks! I didn't realize that Windows have changed it. Btw, my Windows version is 21H2 and checked the registry. The value is set as 1.
So, I still have no idea what wrong is.

IF this is the problem - then just move the library to a better location on the disk.

There is a folder which you think of as the root of the library e.g., "Dark ERA Library"
All the library contents are in that folder - subfolders like 'layers', 'image files', etc
The entire "Dark ERA Library" folder can be located wherever you choose, put it wherever you want.
Then you simply tell ENGINE where it is when you ADD LIBRARY in ENGINE

The important thing is to put the entire "Dark ERA Library" folder somewhere 'high up' on your disk.
i.e., don't bury it deep within too many folders.
e.g, imagine you are using disk D:
then a good choice (short path) would be something like these folders
D:\Best Service\Dark ERA Library

Here's a bad choice...
D:\some weird folder\some other weird folder\and yet another pointless subfolder\Best Service\Dark ERA
because that path is pointlessly long (and eventually may be too long to work)

p.s., Even though you can tell Windows 10 to accept longer path lengths there is no guarantee that older softer like Best Service ENGINE can work with longer paths (in fact it's unlikely)

 

I didn't even install any libraries. I was just installing the Engine and the problem is installing e-license.

 

I haven't installed any of the Best service stuff, but as a rule if file names are being truncated just make a temporary folder, say C:\Temp.. create the files in there and then once it has been created, place the files in the correct folder.
I'm not sure of this because I haven't checked, but I believe the O/S can read longer filenames than write them.. That is why my system usually works!

I might have a go at installing it later to provide a definitive update.
