All the older KG apps I had are not working anymore. I am using crossover as a workaround currently but I have to make a new bottle for each new KG. So which program do you all use for opening the windows KGs on Mac OS Big Sur?

Crossover, running every keygen through the same bottle with run command.

 

Wineskin Winery. it's a good free alternative. You can also reuse wrappers, but eventually I end up making a new one.

 

Hmm okay, thank you! I am having a question about Crossover then because I'm pretty new to that program.
After installing, the keygen is automatically opened.
But if I want to execute it again later, where do I find it?
Because strangely I couldn't find the keygen in the bottle anymore...

 

You find the .exe file wherever you had it on your hard drive to start with, when using Wineskin. It is only "virtually installed", meaning into the WINE environment, and then executed. It is never copied to another hdd location. slight oversimplification, but you should get the idea.

Don't use install new application button,

1.Click the plus icon in bottom left.
2.Create new bottle win 7 64bit or higher.
3.After finishing setup select your bottle from left tab.
4.Then click on run command and browse for your keygen and run.

Every time you need to open a keygen go to the same bottle and use run command feature and browse for keygen.

 

Please excuse my stupidity, but I can't find the installed keygen. When I click on run command I see these folders:

It's your crossover win directory. select macintosh hd from top dropdown menu.

 

Ah I see, so I have to open the place where the original .exe file I just installed is located?
Now I don't get why Crossover doesn't copy this keygen file to the installation or at least makes a shortcut that I can open from within Crossover.

Yes.

If you need to use keygen as an installed application, you need to use install windows application button. Select your keygen and it will create a shortcut on launchpad.

But for keygens i personally like to use the single bottle setup that i mentioned earlier. Because i don't run keygens regularly or don't need to see a shortcut either.

 

@OP, Think of it like this; a virtualization like these is letting you run Windows. When you end the virtualization, everything you did within it is gone. Similar to Sandboxing, or like running an OS off a non-persistent USB drive. It only becomes resident in memory. (unless otherwise instructed to write to a mounted physical drive)

Okay, thank you. It seems a bit complicated to me, but if it is the way it works I will have to accept it. And I will also use the single bottle setup now.
