Hi all, how do I get the reaper to open .midi files immediately with a midi synthesizer already prepared? Well like fl studio, offers channel type, I want to choose a midi synthesizer standard from microsoft, such a standard set of midi sounds. How do I get the sounds to play in the midi reaper?

Hi, inside Reaper you have the option to open a multi part midi file as single track or to spread each midi part on a separate track.
To use the Microsoft synthesizer, you have to enable it from the Reaper midi out ports, then assign that midi out from the track routing "Midi Hardware Out" which is the button available from the mixer view or from the track panel layout number 2.

    Even easier

Drag and drop your MIDI file to a track. Right click the I/O button on the track and select > MIDI output > Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth > Send all.

Just to add to the already good responses above.. if you want to keep the MIDI file split into separate tracks, you could create one parent track with your routing to the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (as described by burnistar) and drag all the midi tracks underneath, as child tracks, then you only have to do it once. You can also select them all at once and just right click one route button and it will route them all too. The former is best if you're potentially going to keep adding MIDI files later on.

Not as quick and easy as other DAWs, but it works, with minimal effort.

You could - if it's meant for previewing the midi file - configure a track as the others have described. Name this track "Media Explorer Preview", click on the routing button in the Media Explorer and set a check mark in front of 'Preview via Track' (I think it's called something like that, idk, I'm not at the PC right now). This way all files played in Media Explorer will be previewed via this track.

Simply load the midi file into Studio One and it will automatically load GM sounds (runs away and hides).

Seriously though, all DAWs should have this ability, most producers use midi files at one time or another.

I find using the system's Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth adds a tiny bit of latency that can be avoided if you use a VST instrument instead. Roland Sound Canvas VSTs, including even the antique HyperCanvas, are effectively the same General MIDI tool as Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (even uses the same sound fonts) but with all the advantages of having the instrument inside Reaper and hence also with a basic GUI to control it. This is usually a much better choice than sending the midi data out to the system's Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.

Great, and as for your recommendation 'Everything works"
Do you have a link to that 'Everything works' plugin - it sounds very handy to me.

The "Everything works" link is broken. This one is almost the same, the "Never not working" plugin. They sound almost identical. LOL.

A rumour has it @Xupito was involved in developing that "Never not working" plugin.
Sounds almost too good to be true - be careful!
