When downloading from the sister site there is often crucial information within the replies to the upload.

It would be nice if there was a simple way of saving/pdf printing the replies to the same folder as the downloaded file.

Maybe a 'print view' of the page as many sites offer these days, containing only the conversation.

 

I use a Chrome extension called FireShot for this very task and its as easy as a couple of clicks.

Can save web pages / threads as PDF or an image file.

It's free and I highly recommend it.

 

I just make .txt files and put them into the crack folder if they are relevant, age old practice for me

 

For Firefox there is an Addon "Pagesaver WE" that takes a picture (png, jpg) of the whole or a part of the current Webpage and stores it where you like.
Also, some useful settings in settings page.

You can store the pages in the standard "download" path or a subfolder within "download" path (you can define it via settings).
This can be done without any user feedback (or just a click sound). Or you are asked where to save the file.
Great little Addon.

Windows has had Print to PDF as standard since win 7, just hit Ctrl-P and print to PDF

 

i think he knows how to make screenshots and most browers also allow you to save a page into a single html archive.

but in any case you will have to rename or move stuff manually. :/

If you download something that you can't try right after, it can be very helpful to keep relevant information about it together in the same folder, so the day you're going to install it, you don't have to search for it.

 

Not necessarily.
With "Pagesaver WE" you can define the titles of hardcopies (with %x variables) and a standard download path. This way there is no need for user interaction.
If one uses e.g. a UNC path as I do, he can use symbolic links for placing files anywhere on LAN, e.g. in a download folder on my server.

I regularily use it for downloads of TV shows or films

 

I am a dinosaur, I copy all the text in Wordpad with a clear heading (folder name).
Example: BeatAssist - Gotcha x32 x64 VST VST3 - SF2 Player - 02/17/2021 - Freeware

I then go to the website and put on a bookmark and copy a few pictures and of course the manual if available.
If the internet is not available, I have created enough information.

 

I do a quick Ctrl-C copy of any relevant text in a post, paste it in a txt file in the folder with the DLed files.
There is always useful info about the product itself, versions, update info, about cracks etc.
I've done it many thousands of times over the last 30 (!!) years or more, been very thankful for it many times.
I do it so quickly, it literally takes seconds while the actual DL is busy.
And I save the images in the post, just drag & drop to the same folder.
So I don't to wonder a month later, WTF was this....
When you DL as many as 40-50 different things a day, it gets messy without info.

 

every option in a browser to save html or screenshots will end up in a folder of your choice. but that is not what you want, you want these infos inside the archives you downloaded so that they dont get lost.

 

A simple way to save an entire page as a pdf with photos and with all active links remaining active is use Opera browser right click on the page you will see a menu which has save as pdf it saves it as one continuous page without any page breaks, from there you can edit and crop it to your needs with any good pdf program. I have used this Opera feature for many years and find it extremely useful. Better than a plain text or NFO file this allows as you see all just as posted and the active links on the pdf remain active to allow you to open up to the listed / link pages even after cropping, I find this feature indispensible.Save a page with active links for programs you want to download and get them later when you have more time all the info is there for you.

In Chrome, press Ctrl + P and the page will be saved as a PDF without the need for extensions.

In the dialog box that appears, remember to select "Microsoft print to PDF" in the "Destination" option.

To clarify, I do know how to accomplish the task - but it's a pain. Like others I also scan through the replies and copy and paste to a text file and save it to the download folder. But it's very time consuming. Regarding pdf printing/saving the whole page - I've done that too but it's not an elegant solution, especially when, as is often the case, there are multiple pages. I haven't looked at any of the solutions suggested yet but I will.

I'm not looking for solutions so much as suggesting it could be a feature built into the site.

 

The computer was invented to be able to handle the enormous amounts of data. See electronic data processing for short EDP. There was still as much data as today, there will be more tomorrow. I imagine my PC as a library, sorted by topic so that something can be found again quickly. Everyone who uses the Internet today is confronted with the flood of data ... and everyone will try to sort the chaos.
