So, I've recently downloaded the SoundToys 5 Bundle trial to see what's up and if there was anything different from the latest version available on sister site (not much to my surprise, still no VST3). I ended up giving them a chance (since I had them in my machine but never took much time to see what those plugins could do) and ended up falling in love with them (no bullshit, straight to the point, easy to use, sounds excellent). Thing is... in my mad wonders and recent experiments (even finished a track the same day, boy I was inspired) I pondered: should I buy the whole thing? I actually have the academic discount ($249) available and use a bunch of plugins (mainly Little Plate, Sie-q, Panman and Little Tap). Should I just buy those separately and use the old Warez version?

1). So... after all that rambling, I'd like to ask the users the same question: is it worth it, the whole bundle?

2). What are the pros and cons of using SoundToys plugins (besides icock,, I mean, *ilok) in your opinion?

3). How does their update policy works? Will newer products be added to my account, or do I need to pay for them or for upgrades?

4). What is going on? Why so few major updates or products throughout the years? It's like the company is frozen in time.

some of the other questions you should ask the dev.

But i realy like them, often the whole bundle comes in at clutch, on the other hand
kush made some of those toys redundant, but only some:yes:

Oh, I'm watching it rn, thanks for the tip! Really weird, I read gossip in the comments that their lead DSP dev left the company or something like that, just rumble tho

Yeah, there isn't much info about their policies on their website, just the basic. Which is weird and the reason I'm asking. Also, what Kush plugins? I've tried a few and like them but they were all analog-saturation related.

    Decapitator
    Little Radiator
    Devil-Loc

Kush made some great strides in the same path with things like Deflector
which is somewhat like Little Radiator, Devil-Loc, combined (note, not the same)
+ things like Transformer and D.I got me the subtle Decapitator i often use
and the musicality is always preserved like in Soundtoys.

So, redundant could be misunderstood, i wont stop using one or the other, but
tweaking time is cut in half, thanks to having both.

Lastly, what i meant with, you should ask the dev directly, is
"get the info and post it here":mates:

and fuck that sNaKE oIl retard, he is the reason i got a channel blocker addon.
But that fucker got himself a little army of idiots it seems.
He actually turned of the preamp to test Acustica plugins:deep_facepalm:

Oh, will check those out, I stayed back from Kush till now cuz I find their plugins to be hyper expensive (at least to my standards)

But it's nice to know there are some people out there remembering that musicians also use plugins!

About the snake oil dude, I don't have anything against him but it's funny to notice how some Youtubers pose lack of powerful oversampling measures to be a major downfall, especially when they have certainly listened to a lof of hits that used "nasty plugins" full of "nastly dirty evil" aliasing.

For me they look great and they sound great, but for some reason I never use them. There are other plugins which also sound great and are easier to get the sound you want. Perhaps that's what it is, because I was so excited when I got them and just never found the motivation to go beyond the presets.

I see, what other plugins are you referencing?

Yeah, I haven't got to the presets so far, I'm just having fun tweaking through the parameters. Little plate is just a luxury for the type of music I usually make (lofi beats/alternative electronic). Echoboy is just huge (pretty similar to Valhalla Delay) and versatile, Sie-Q makes it super easy to eq vocals, etc. Having a good experience so far.

I know how people flock to the newer stuff because they always think newer is better, but I am old school and still have a Korg SDD3000 Digital Delay and that is probably why I tend to go for the PSP Audio Lexicon PSP42

Cave producers that still use rocks, we need to spread them the word :guru:. Jokes aside, I think Valhalla Delay comes pretty close in that department but I don't know many fancy delays.

Plus ValhallaDelay regularly gets updated with new delay modes, so who know what kind of beast it will become in the future.

Having SoundToys 5 bundle since 2015 I can honestly say (without any exaggeration) it's one of my most beloved plugin purchase ever. They are unique, highly creative and fantastic sounding.

I have been exchanging emails with Hank and Tony from SoundToys on numerous occasions. They are exremely polite and willing to help all the way if you have any issue. I've asked them the same questions - why so few updates and why no new plugins for some time.

    1. The developer team had a hiatus due to COVID and was working with minimum resources. Now they are working on something new which will be added for free for all v5 bundle owners. I still don't know what it is but I'm sure it will be great.

    2. Fewer updates were rolled out due to the reason above, and most importantly - plugins are still working perfectly both on PC and macOS.

    3. As @dondada mentioned above VST3 is coming, as well as full Apple Silicon support.

    4. (Bonus) Watch these videos:

    Or SoundToys shorts: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLL93phyiaMflDABOKW4loGley_se_LAIW

And you'll probably see there's so much more under the hood of SoundToys plugins then you think :guru:

You've made my point perfectly. EVERYTHING says that S/T is better and can do far more than The PSP Lexicon I use, but when I want a specific sound I just cant be bothered to create it in Echoboy, or Phase Mistress. if I want a very high quality sounding flanger on a return track for example, I'll use three Lexicons running in series to recreate the D-Train - Keep On sound.. I tried for 2 days unsuccessfully in sound toys to recreate that. Took me 12 minutes using PSP Lexicon

    anyone that says something is better is probably {.......}
maybe i´m the exception but i love the psp, but i love soundtoys too!
even if its just a few sounds, i´ll keep the things that make magic happen (imo)
i don't remember plugins, i remember sounds they gave me.
or problems they solved (i.e time saved) without (much)hassle

If you can handle it and you have the money, I would buy them. 70% cheaper until January 12th 2021.
This supports the manufacturer and the quality of SoundToys is world famous.

The SoundToys plugins are pretty much bug free. There are other manufacturers who do not have a VST3 either
and it is not a disadvantage if you only have VST2, unless you have a 4K monitor then you need VST3.
SoundToys plays in the classes of Waves and iZotope. You can see that at thomann in the sales rank.

So far all updates have been free of charge:
SoundToys has released of Soundtoys version 5.2.4, which is a free maintenance update for all version 5 product owners.

There are sample rate to choose and/or Metaplugin with IIR/FIR oversampling modes (latest versions supports up to 64x OS, as I remember). Aliasing is not a problem anymore if you have metaplugin
