This sound is interesting to me, as I am always trying to blend guitars & synths in a musically pleasing way. Johnny Jewel is the main man, and the influence is Italo Disco..

There are a lot of different genres of electronic music, but IMHO those music are successful and memorable that benefit from powerful melodies. Melody making isn't the fierce desire of most of today's electronic music producers, but they don't know what valuable resources they're missing. Maybe playing with their DAWs' features and tools at their disposal is more appealing than making melodies. Who knows?:dunno:

Today's electronic music isn't created with the goal of the brain enjoying it. It's mostly used to dance. I'm not saying you shouldn't dance to electronic music, but the purpose of electronic music should be the brain and respecting it. If it's only used to dance, it'll be forgotten after a while.

Bodo Staiger (born October 27, 1949 in Düsseldorf; † December 4 [1] 2019 [2] ibid) was a German musician and producer.

At the age of 18, Staiger played together with Marius Müller-Westernhagen in the rock'n'roll band Harakiri Whoom. Then he founded the jazz-rock formation Sinus together with Karl Bartos. From the mid-1970s he played an album with the rock band Lilac Angels. But then he became known as the singer of the NDW band Rheingold, which he founded in 1980, influenced by bands such as Kraftwerk and La Düsseldorf. With the band he released three albums and several commercially successful singles such as Dreiklangsdimimen between 1980 and 1984.

In 1982 Staiger played the pop star R. in the German horror film Der Fan, who is murdered and consumed after a fleeting night of love with a female fan. For the 1984 German comedy film Jagger und Spaghetti, he was responsible for the film music.

Most recently Staiger worked as a producer and sound engineer in Düsseldorf. In 1997 he worked on the production of a solo album by the former Kraftwerk musician Wolfgang Flür, which was published under the project name Yamo.

One of your posts just sounded like you had a more specific "hiphop, meet auto-tune" sort of moment in mind. Where electronic music (as a genre) "jumped the shark". I always thought of this as the point in a rock band's career where the orchestral accompaniment tracks begin to appear.

    All I'm saying is this:

A lot of producers run away from this fact and try to fill the gaps in their works with other things or deceive themselves that melody isn't a big deal. Music without a satisfying melody is doomed to slide to the road to oblivion (unfortunately). How many electronic works are literally melodic? Less than 5%? Listen to some of the tracks on Beatport . Are they really able to satisfy your melodic demand?
