Hey guys, hope you're doing great.
I've been really interested in psytrance lately, and besides music I really love graphic design and motion design, so I would like to learn more on how these psytrance artworks are made. If you have any tip for a channel on YT or a website that can help me to get the techniques used in these types of composition I would appreciate a lot.

It seens to be a mix of drawing and image mangling, duplicacations and manipulations, but I really wouldn't know where to start something like this, so if you know any sort of tutorial for these type of artworks it would help me a lot. Thanks in advance guys!

PS. Is there a way to resize the images here, so all of them look on the same size?

 

Kaleidoscope App for smartphone is my first proposition
Second proposition is Kaleidoscope app for PC

On the smartphone You can have some fun with photos in real time.
On the PC You can make some vector drawing in Illustrator and then export it to Kaleidoscope app and do some variations.

 

And of course you can search for some pictures on the net
Cut out the part from it like from the cake, shape of triangle and import into Kaleidoscope app
And later add this to your composition

 

Yeah, thanks for your suggestion. I found a nice website called mehdiplugins, it seems to have some nice plugins that can help achieve some of the image manipulations effects used in these artworks way easier than manually doing in Photoshop, one of them is the kaleidoscope effect.

But would be nice to watch some sort of start to finish of a composition like these just to get in the ballpark.

Man, i'm looking like a child right now. Drawing is fun.
I love this thing, wish it was possible to save the final result with alpha background, but probably the overlay option in photoshop can solve this problem. Thanks for your recomendation.

Nice bro, that particle shop seems to be a handy tool for lots of types of works, thanks for the suggestion.

Looks interesting, I wish Photoshop or Illustrator had this function of symetric mirror painting. It's possible to achieve but seems to need way more work to setup everything.

This first art looks like here is a lot of Blend Modes in Photoshop.
For example you can took some pic of men and using some blend modes to took only his shadow
You can cut eyes from other pic
you can cut flowers
Letters
Dna spiral
Draw some blue-violet gradients
Use some Photoshop Blend Modes To mix everything
And in the result you will create something similar to this art

It's actually a quite old program, maybe Pentium3 era?

I don't recall it being slow, but the graphics are certainly at another level nowadays..

I donno if Apophysis can be HW accelerated,
but here's an interesting GPU accelerated fractal flame generator:

I recommend ZBrush for sculpting & Keyshot for render.
You can get nice results very quickly.
But render time depends on many things. It can took 5 minutes and also 5 hours.

For example I made something like this in 5 minutes + render time 20 minutes

Yeah, that's my main idea since I do not have any drawing skills really. i'm thinking on doing something like the old school Axtone label artworks but with more image manipulations and more psychedelic effects. Actually your video example reminded me of this old one from Axtone:
